Hollywood Bowl is set to open a new bowling alley at Salford Quays in the coming weeks, pending approval of a premises licence by Salford Council. The venue has moved into the upper mall of Quayside shopping centre, part of a £16m revamp by Peel Retail & Leisure.
Premises Licence Application
The bowling venue and bar has applied for a premises licence allowing operations between 9am and 1am the following day, including the sale of alcohol and provision of entertainment. If approved by a licensing committee next week, Hollywood Bowl's opening hours would be 9am to 11.30pm Sunday to Thursday, and 9am to 1.30am on Fridays and Saturdays.
Revamp of Quayside Shopping Centre
The mall, owned by Peel, is investing millions to transform the shopping centre, which suffered numerous closures earlier in the year. The retail centre first opened in 2001 but struggled to maintain popularity after the Covid-19 lockdowns. As of February this year, only one food spot remained open in the former upstairs food court. Regularly described as a 'ghost town', Peel hopes to breathe new life into the area with more hospitality options.
Developers received planning permission in April to knock down internal walls and create a new space for Hollywood Bowl and GoKarting business Hyperdrive Karting. The revamp also includes the opening of food market Kargo MKT.
Quotes and Impact
Speaking of the approval, a spokesperson for Peel said the shopping centre was moving into 'a new era'. The spokesperson added: “This marks the next step in shaping Quayside’s future and creating one of the best retail and leisure destinations in the region.” The changes build on recent developments aimed at revitalizing the area.
