Double Shark Attack Claims Life on NSW Coast
A tragic double shark attack on the New South Wales coast has resulted in the death of a woman and left a man fighting for his life. The horrific incident occurred at Kylies Beach within the Crowdy Bay National Park, approximately 300 kilometres north of Sydney.
Bystander's Heroic Intervention
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene early on Thursday morning. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the woman, who is believed to be in her 20s, could not be saved and died at the scene. The man, also thought to be in his 20s, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Newcastle in a critical condition.
Authorities have since praised the courageous actions of a bystander who stepped in before paramedics arrived. The individual applied a makeshift tourniquet to the man's leg, an act that NSW Ambulance Superintendent Josh Smyth stated "potentially saved his life".
Emergency Services Praise Courage
Superintendent Smyth expressed his admiration for those who assisted, highlighting the immense bravery required in such a terrifying situation. "The courage from some bystanders is amazing in this situation," he said. "To put yourself out there is heroic and obviously it did give us time to get to that male patient."
The community and authorities are in shock following this rare and devastating event. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of ocean environments.
