Wednesday's instalment of the BBC's hit reality show The Traitors began with a seismic confrontation, as faithful contestant Harriet dramatically turned the tables on the show's villains.
A Barrister's Bluff and a Direct Accusation
The episode's tense opening saw faithfuls Matthew and Harriet granted a rare opportunity to question the hidden Traitors, hoping for truthful answers. Before posing her query, Harriet delivered a bombshell revelation about her own background, disclosing her former career as a barrister and a writer of crime novels.
She then asked which faithfuls the Traitors might hope to recruit in future. When her own name was listed among their three potential targets, Harriet's reaction was one of visible contempt. She accused the cloaked figures of "taking her for a fool" and stated with confidence that she believed Rachel was one of the Traitors standing before her.
Rachel confessed that Harriet's assertive behaviour left her feeling "unnerved and uneasy." Harriet ended the encounter with a defiant warning: "You can't murder me tonight, there is nothing you can do to stop me."
Breakfast Tensions Boil Over
The conflict spilled into the next morning's breakfast. Harriet fixed a glaring stare on Rachel, a mother-of-three, as she entered the castle. "I was not going to allow another day of web weaving around me because I've had enough. I'm on to you. You should have killed me when you had the chance," she quipped.
As Rachel attempted to explain the Traitors' strategic angle, stating they were considering how to make the situation "benefit the Faithful," Harriet repeatedly interrupted. Fellow contestant Roxy Wilson stepped in to defuse the situation, a move that only served to rile Harriet further.
Fan Reaction and Fiona's Fallout
Viewers took to social media platform X to dissect the high-stakes drama. While some praised Harriet's bold stand, labelling her "terrifying" and an "icon," others feared she had revealed her hand too soon.
One fan posted: "Harriet has overplayed her hand. She's revealed too much about herself and made herself a threat." Another commented: "Harriet laid all her s**t bare far too early... She's f****d it." Many, however, were enthralled, with one declaring the episode "the best television ever made."
The episode's drama followed the shocking banishment of former secret Traitor Fiona Hughes on Friday's show. The 62-year-old from Swansea was sent home after the Faithfuls broke into cheers upon her revelation.
Speaking to The Sun, Fiona admitted her exit was "incredibly tense" and that she was "the master of my own downfall." She explained she had confronted Rachel in the turret because she needed to be sure she was a "team player and not playing singularly." Fiona described Rachel as a "formidable player" and a "lone wolf" she believed would eventually come for her.
Following Fiona's banishment, a guilt-ridden Stephen Libby broke down in tears, while a triumphant Rachel reflected, "I won the battle, but I need to win the war."
