Disney's Tangled Live-Action Remake Finalises Cast with Villain Reveal

The highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Disney's animated classic Tangled has now completed its principal casting, sending fans into a frenzy with the announcement of its villain. The 2010 fairy-tale film, which follows the adventures of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, is set for a fresh cinematic interpretation, with key roles now confirmed.

Kathryn Hahn Takes on the Role of Mother Gothel

Disney has unveiled that Emmy-nominated actress Kathryn Hahn will portray the domineering antagonist, Mother Gothel, in the upcoming remake. Hahn, known for her recent role as Agatha Harkness in Disney's Agatha All Along, shared the news on Instagram with a playful post. On Wednesday, March 10, she uploaded an 'outfit of the day' reel wearing a T-shirt featuring images of Mother Gothel, captioned "OOTD, Mother Gothel."

Fans immediately flooded the comments with excitement, with one exclaiming, "SCREAMING I KNEW IT I KNEW IT," while another added, "WE HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR THIS." A third fan expressed, "KATHRYN THIS IS THE BEST NEWS I NEEDED THIS TODAY!!!" Hahn's casting marks a significant addition, given her extensive career that began as a teenager in the 1986 comedy Hickory Hideout and includes numerous major roles.

Lead Roles Confirmed for Rapunzel and Flynn Rider

Earlier this year, in January, it was confirmed that Australian actress Teagan Croft will star as the titular character, Rapunzel. Croft is best recognised for her portrayal of Raven in the DC series Titans. The role of Flynn Rider, Rapunzel's charming thief companion, will be played by Milo Manheim, familiar to audiences as Zed from Disney's Zombies film series.

The original animated film, released in 2010, features Rapunzel, voiced by Mandy Moore, as a young woman with magically long hair confined to a tower. When Flynn Rider, voiced by Zachary Levi, enters her life, they embark on a journey to see the annual lanterns released by the King and Queen on her birthday, uncovering secrets about Rapunzel's past along the way.

Creative Team Behind the Remake

The live-action remake will be directed by Michael Gracey, whose previous works include Robbie Williams' biopic Better Man and the musical film The Greatest Showman. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson has been appointed as the screenwriter, bringing experience from penning major productions such as Thor: Love and Thunder.

This announcement solidifies the cast and crew for the project, building anticipation among Disney enthusiasts. The original Tangled remains available for streaming on Disney+, offering fans a chance to revisit the beloved story before the new adaptation hits screens.
