Sydney Sweeney's Cameo Cut from Devil Wears Prada 2 in Creative Decision
Sydney Sweeney's cameo has been excised from the highly anticipated sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2, according to a new report. The 28-year-old actor, known for her role in Euphoria, was originally slated to appear as herself in a scene with Emily Blunt, but this has been removed in a creative decision by the filmmaking team.
Scene Details and Removal
Entertainment Weekly reported on Tuesday that the scene, filmed last year, does not appear in the movie at all. In the planned cameo, Sweeney was to play a celebrity client being dressed by Blunt's character, who now works at Dior. The scene was set to last three minutes and occur at the beginning of the film, where former Runway magazine colleagues played by Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, and Stanley Tucci approach Blunt for help to save the fashion magazine.
However, the scene was cut because it did not work structurally with the final version of the movie's sequence. Despite this, the film's crew expressed gratitude for Sweeney's participation in the shoot. Neither representatives for Disney nor Sweeney have commented on the removal.
Other Celebrity Appearances
While Sweeney's cameo did not make the cut, other celebrities are expected to appear in the movie. Today show star Jenna Bush Hager is set for a role, with news of her involvement spoiled on-air by her co-anchor Craig Melvin earlier this month. Additionally, pop icon Lady Gaga was spotted on the sequel's set last October, suggesting a surprise appearance.
Background and New Additions
The Devil Wears Prada 2 premieres 20 years after the critically acclaimed original, which follows recent college graduate Andy Sachs (Hathaway) as she becomes the personal assistant to diabolical fashion editor Miranda Priestly (Streep). The original film is based on Lauren Weisberger's novel, inspired by her time as Vogue editor Anna Wintour's assistant.
Newcomers to the franchise include Kenneth Branagh, Lucy Liu, and Bridgerton star Simone Ashley. Ironically, since the first movie, Wintour and Streep have become friends and discovered they are related as sixth cousins.
Fan Reactions and Trailer Moments
Excitement for the sequel is mounting, but some fans have raised concerns. A bizarre moment in the trailer showed a meme from the first movie, which would not exist in the film's universe. Earlier this month, fans also called out an editing error in the trailer, where an onlooker was seen recording Hathaway on set with a phone in the background.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is scheduled to premiere in theaters on May 1, 2026.
