Viewers of the BBC's Beyond Paradise have expressed disappointment after the season two finale failed to deliver the much-anticipated wedding between DI Humphrey Goodman and Martha Lloyd. The episode, which aired on Friday night, saw the couple come close to tying the knot before the ceremony was unexpectedly called off.
Fans took to social media to voice their frustration, with one writing on X: 'Disappointed that there wasn't a wedding. Just a very poor ending.' Another added: 'I wanted to see the wedding, the speeches, first dance and vows. I feel beyond betrayed.' A third commented: 'Fairly implausible wedding/no wedding scenario.'
Despite the mixed reaction to the finale, the BBC has confirmed that Beyond Paradise will return for a third series and a Christmas special. The Death in Paradise spin-off, which stars Kris Marshall as the detective inspector, has been a hit since its debut last year.
In the season two finale, the couple's fostering journey concluded as they welcomed Ryan into their home. Meanwhile, PC Kelby Hartford and CS Charlie Woods' professional relationship took an unexpected turn, and DS Esther Williams investigated a robbery at the Shipton Abbott Museum.
Tim Key, executive producer for Red Planet Pictures, said: 'The response to series two has been fantastic. We can't wait to get back to Shipton Abbott for another Christmas special and series to continue the story.' Lindsay Salt, director of BBC Drama, added: 'Beyond Paradise has become such a huge hit with millions of viewers across the UK.'
