Craig Revel Horwood Admits He's 'Mellowed' to Avoid Cancellation Ahead of Strictly 2025

Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has revealed he has softened his famously blunt critiques to avoid being 'cancelled' as he prepares for the 2025 series. The sharp-tongued judge, known for his cutting verdicts, admitted he now always 'tags a positive' onto every negative comment.

'Back 21 years ago I could be more direct,' Horwood told MailOnline. 'But now what I do is be honest and upfront with the contestants about their routine... then I will try tag a positive onto the end of it.' He added that he ensures his criticism is 'not being harsh for effect' and is always truthful about the dance.

The 2025 series is already in rehearsals, with professional dancers confirmed including Amy Dowden, Dianne Buswell, and newcomers Alexis Warr and Julian Caillon. Alexis, winner of US show So You Think You Can Dance in 2022, said she is 'honoured' to join the Strictly family, while Julian, an Australian ballroom specialist, noted he knows Horwood can be 'a little bit tough' from his time judging on Dancing With The Stars Australia.

Horwood will return to the judging panel alongside Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas, and Anton Du Beke. The celebrity contestants remain under wraps, but the show is expected to air on BBC One later this year.
