Stacey Solomon Joins Britain's Got Talent as Emergency Judge

Britain's Got Talent has made a triumphant return to ITV1 for its latest series, with hosts Ant and Dec guiding the nationwide talent search once again. The beloved competition showcases a diverse array of acts vying for the grand prize of £250,000 and a prestigious performance slot at the Royal Variety Performance. This year, the judging panel features a notable change, as musician and YouTuber KSI has taken over from Bruno Tonioli, joining regular judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, and Alesha Dixon for the initial auditions.

Unexpected Panel Change in Birmingham

The auditions continued in Birmingham on Saturday, March 21, with another surprise addition to the panel. Television personality Stacey Solomon made a special appearance on the series, stepping in for head judge Simon Cowell. As a result, Amanda Holden temporarily assumed the role of leading the panel. During her time on set last October, Stacey described the experience as "a dream come true", sharing behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram and expressing her excitement to fans by saying, "I cannot wait to get out there."

Why did Stacey Solomon appear on Britain's Got Talent? The 36-year-old star, who first gained fame on The X Factor in 2009, stepped in for Simon Cowell after he fell ill. Producers were determined not to cancel the auditions, leading to Stacey's last-minute involvement. The first day of auditions had already been postponed due to Simon's illness, with audience members receiving emails from ticket providers with further details. Fans were relieved and delighted when Stacey's participation prevented another postponement the following day.

Behind-the-Scenes Insights and Reactions

A television insider revealed at the time, "If she hadn't have stepped in then organisers were facing doing the show with three judges or potentially cancelling the Birmingham auditions, and they really did not want to do that. So many people were disappointed when yesterday's auditions were cancelled, they didn't want that to happen again, so Stacey was a great sport and stepped in. BGT are so grateful to her for agreeing at such short notice and it adds an extra bit of excitement to proceedings too."

Reflecting on her experience during an appearance on ITV's This Morning earlier in the week, Stacey told hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, "I loved it!" She added, "Do you know what's really funny [about] having that full circle moment? One, I felt like I really connected with people on stage, because it's not easy to put yourself forward in those situations." Referencing her popular BBC programme, Sort Your Life Out, Stacey continued, "But two, I realised just what it's like to present a show where you're not digging through people's houses and you get to dress up, wear a nice dress and sit in a chair all day. I was like, 'Wow, this is a great show!'"

Simon Cowell returned for the subsequent set of auditions, with some of these sessions scheduled to air in the upcoming episode. This development follows Britain's Got Talent being temporarily dropped from ITV's schedule the previous weekend, as the broadcaster prioritised live coverage of the Six Nations rugby tournament. The show resumes on ITV1 and ITVX on Saturday, March 21 at 6.45pm.
