Sort Your Life Out Viewers Moved by Single Mum's Heartbreaking Loss Story
Sort Your Life Out: Single Mum's Heartbreaking Loss Moves Viewers

Viewers of the BBC's DIY programme Sort Your Life Out were visibly emotional during its latest episode, as they heard the profoundly moving story of a single mother coping with immense personal tragedy. The show, now in its sixth series, features television personality Stacey Solomon and her team assisting families in decluttering and transforming their homes.

A Family in Need of Support

In this instalment, broadcast on Tuesday evening, the team travelled to south London to help the Saunders family. The focus was on Almarie, a mother who had endured the devastating loss of her beloved husband, Marcus, just six years prior. Tragically, this bereavement occurred a mere five months after she lost her own mother, compounding her grief.

A Life Turned Upside Down

Almarie had previously put her career on hold to care for their daughter, Maria, now ten years old, who lives with a chromosomal condition. The family's life was shattered when Marcus received a sudden and severe diagnosis in December 2021.

'In December 2021, Marcus was unwell it came to light that he had a diagnosis of bile cancer that had spread to the liver,' Almarie recounted during the episode. 'They said the survival was five years but he passed within the two months. It was very surreal because it was like one minute life was perfect, then the next day the whole dream just shattered.'

Bile duct cancer is a rare and aggressive form of the disease that develops in the tubes transporting digestive bile from the liver. Common symptoms include jaundice, which causes yellowing of the skin and eyes, persistent itchy skin, overwhelming fatigue, and significant, unintended weight loss.

The Decluttering Mission

The primary goal for Stacey Solomon and her crew was to help Almarie declutter the family's three-bedroom semi-detached house. Following her husband's passing, Almarie found it incredibly difficult to part with possessions, a common challenge for those in mourning. With Stacey's empathetic guidance, she began the painful but necessary process of letting go.

The hope was that by creating a more organised and spacious home, Almarie could potentially take in a lodger to provide additional financial support with the mortgage. During the initial period of crisis, Almarie's childhood friends had stepped in, even sleeping on the sofa to offer her practical and emotional support.

Viewer Reaction on Social Media

The episode prompted an outpouring of sympathy and shared emotion from the audience on social media platform X. Many viewers expressed how deeply they were affected by Almarie's story.
