First Look: Cillian Murphy Returns in Peaky Blinders Film 'The Immortal Man'
Peaky Blinders Film Teaser Released by Netflix

Fans of the razor-sharp BBC drama have been given their first electrifying glimpse of the upcoming cinematic chapter, as Netflix released a teaser for Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man on Christmas Eve.

A Haunted Return for Tommy Shelby

The 70-second preview reunites two titans of Irish acting, with Cillian Murphy reprising his iconic role as the troubled gangster Tommy Shelby. The film finds Shelby emerging from a self-imposed exile against the tumultuous backdrop of the Second World War. A haunting voiceover poses the central question: "Whatever happened to Tommy Shelby? The famous gypsy gangster."

Murphy's character appears profoundly changed, seen walking with his head bowed in his signature baker boy cap, while a female voice pleads, "Tommy, you've got to come back." His own response, "I'm not that man any more," hints at a deep internal conflict and a story grappling with identity and legacy.

New Faces and Familiar Blood

The teaser also offers a brief but tantalising look at Oscar-nominated Barry Keoghan as a new character, marked by arm tattoos and a white vest. He joins a stellar cast of newcomers including Rebecca Ferguson and Tim Roth.

They will appear alongside returning series favourites such as Sophie Rundle as Ada Shelby and Stephen Graham as union man Hayden Stagg. The film is directed by Tom Harper and written by the show's creator, Steven Knight, who is also set to pen the next James Bond screenplay.

The Expanding Peaky Blinders Universe

This feature film serves as a direct continuation of the hit series, which charted the Shelby crime family's rise in post-WWI Birmingham. The story picks up after the events of the sixth and final TV season, which aired in 2022 and concluded with Tommy on the brink of suicide after a devastating misdiagnosis.

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is scheduled for a theatrical premiere on 6 March 2025, before becoming available globally on Netflix from 20 March.

In a major expansion of the franchise, the BBC confirmed in October that the Shelby saga will continue with two brand-new television series. This spin-off will focus on a "new generation of Shelbys" and is set in 1953, years after the film's events. It will be filmed at the new Digbeth Loc Studios in Birmingham. Murphy is confirmed to executive produce, though it is not yet known if he will appear on screen.

This announcement cements Peaky Blinders as a formidable entertainment universe, having already spawned a successful stage ballet. The original series, which first aired on BBC Two in 2013, became a global phenomenon after landing on Netflix, catapulting Murphy and co-stars like Tom Hardy and the late Helen McCrory to international fame and even reviving the flat cap's popularity.
