Veteran Australian broadcaster Melissa Doyle has definitively closed the door on a return to breakfast television, stating she is firmly focused on future challenges after her long stint on Sunrise.
A Chapter Firmly Closed
The 55-year-old journalist, who co-hosted the Seven Network's flagship morning programme for over a decade, made her position clear during an appearance on the Stellar's Something to Talk About podcast. Doyle declared, 'I've been there, done that,' effectively ruling out any comeback to the gruelling breakfast TV schedule.
She elaborated on her decision, emphasising her philosophy of moving forward. 'I did 14 extraordinary years [on the show]. I left on top. I don't believe in going back; I believe in what's next,' Doyle stated. Her comments arrive just days after her former Sunrise colleague, sports reporter Mark Beretta, announced his own departure from the show after an impressive 30-year tenure with the network.
Gratitude and the 'Beast' of Live TV
Despite her firm stance on not revisiting the past, Doyle expressed profound gratitude for the opportunities her time on the programme afforded her. 'I had years of live news experience interviewing anybody, anywhere, anytime,' she reflected. 'It let me hone my craft. Live TV is quite a beast. You can't have dead air, you've got to keep the show rolling, your adrenaline is peaking for the entire three hours.'
Doyle, who now hosts The House of Wellness, stepped down from her Sunrise role back in 2013. She explained that her current focus is on personal and professional evolution, asking herself, 'How do I keep evolving as a human, as a woman, as a journalist? What's my next challenge? What can I learn? What can I try?'
Glamour and a Major Career Milestone
The interview coincided with a glamorous photo shoot for Stellar magazine, where Doyle modelled a series of sophisticated outfits, including a purple two-piece and a chic jacket-and-skirt combination.
Her career continues to reach new heights, with one of her most significant professional challenges imminent. Doyle is set to host Oprah Winfrey's highly anticipated Australian tour, which begins in Sydney. The media icon, Oprah Winfrey, 71, will return to Australia in December for a series of sold-out 'In Conversation' events across Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, and Melbourne.
This news follows the emotional on-air announcement from Mark Beretta, 59, who confirmed his exit from Sunrise to spend more time with his family. During his three decades at Channel Seven, Beretta became a fixture of Australian morning television, covering 13 Olympic Games for the network.
