Meghann Fahy, the 36-year-old actor known for her roles in The White Lotus, The Bold Type, and The Perfect Couple, has opened up about her most embarrassing moment, her first kiss with partner Leo Woodall, and her unusual aspiration to be a killer whale.
Early Life and Career
Born in Massachusetts, Fahy understudied for the musical Next to Normal in 2008 and later played a principal character on Broadway from 2010 to 2011. Her television credits include the soap One Life to Live (2010), the comedy drama The Bold Type (2017-2021), and the recent hit The White Lotus season two. She also appears in The Perfect Couple, Sirens, and the forthcoming The Good Daughter. Her films include the thriller Drop and Rebuilding with Josh O’Connor, currently in cinemas. Fahy lives in New York City with her partner, actor Leo Woodall.
Personal Reflections
When asked about her happiest moment, Fahy said: “When I realised that I could get myself through anything that came my way.” Her greatest fear is “crashing in an aeroplane into an ocean at night.”
She deplores her own tendency to be avoidant and, in others, an inability to be authentic. Her most embarrassing moment occurred during a show called The Unauthorised Autobiography of Samantha Brown: “The actor who played my dad messed up his lines and it made me laugh so hard that I ended up peeing my pants.”
Three Words and Childhood Dreams
Fahy describes herself as “curious, thoughtful and kind.” As a child, she wanted to be a singer.
Love and Relationships
For Fahy, love feels like “peace.” The best kiss of her life was “the first kiss that I had with my now partner. It was in Sicily.” She admits to having said “I love you” without meaning it.
Worst Job and Harsh Words
Fahy says she never had a horrible job, enjoying working at restaurants and as a nanny. However, she recalls a painful audition experience: “I had a casting director once stop me in the middle of an audition and tell me to go wash my face in the bathroom because she felt my makeup was too distracting, but I wasn’t wearing any. It was mortifying.”
Secret Desires and Life Lessons
If she could be someone else, Fahy would choose to be a killer whale: “Everyone’s afraid of them and they’re just having a blast in their little pods.” She would always choose anonymity over fame. The closest she came to death was a blood clot in her artery at age 23. She believes the single thing that would improve her life is someone to clean her apartment.
What keeps her awake at night? “All of the anxious thoughts that you are able to escape during the day that somehow know when you are lying down to relax.” The most important lesson life has taught her is that “your lowest moment is temporary.”
On death, she says: “Being alive on Earth is challenging and I like to believe that whatever happens after is filled with peace and ease.” Her secret: “I ultimately am a woman who really wants to live in the woods. I’ve lived in New York for almost 20 years but I think at heart I want to be in the trees.”
