Hollywood Glamour Descends on Glasgow for Scottish BAFTAs
The Scottish BAFTA Awards transformed Glasgow into a hub of celebrity glamour on Sunday night, with Ewan McGregor and his wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead leading the star-studded arrivals. The married couple, who wed in 2022, enjoyed a rare public outing together for the prestigious ceremony held at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Glasgow.
A Night of Style and Romance
All eyes were on the loved-up pair as they graced the red carpet. Actress and singer Mary Elizabeth Winstead, 40, looked stunning in a dark red velvet dress featuring statement straps. She accessorised with dazzling silver jewellery and a sleek black quilted bag, completing her look with sparkling silver heels and a pop of red lipstick. Her brunette hair was styled in a chic, choppy bob.
By her side, Perthshire-born actor Ewan McGregor, 54, cut a dashing and traditionally Scottish figure. He wore a black suit jacket, kilt, white shirt, and a bow tie, perfectly embodying the spirit of the event. The couple, who fell in love on the set of Fargo in 2016, posed happily for photographers, even sharing a moment with Ewan's uncle, Star Wars icon Denis Lawson.
A Celebration of Scottish Talent
The evening was a significant one for McGregor, who was honoured with the BAFTA Scotland Award for Outstanding Contribution to Film and TV. The event, hosted by Edith Bowman with Sanjeev Kohli as red carpet and backstage host, was a gathering of Scotland's finest creative talents.
Jude MacLaverty, director of BAFTA Scotland, had previously expressed delight at the fantastic list of guests, stating they looked forward to recognising the outstanding achievements of all the nominees.
The guest list was a who's who of Scottish entertainment. David Tennant rocked a kilt and a bejewelled black and silver jacket, while his wife Georgia stunned in a glitzy black dress. Other notable attendees included James McAvoy and his wife Lisa Liberati, who wore a chic strapless black dress, as well as Outlander stars John Bell and Lauren Lyle.
The awards ceremony not only celebrated cinematic and television excellence but also served as a happy milestone for McGregor and Winstead's relationship. The couple, who welcomed their first child together, a son named Laurie, in June 2021, tied the knot in a private backyard ceremony in Los Angeles in April 2022.
