Natasha Lyonne Teases Russian Doll Season 3 & Poker Face Future
Lyonne's Surprising Plans for Russian Doll & Poker Face

Actress and creator Natasha Lyonne has offered fans a tantalising glimpse into the potential futures of two of her most beloved television series, the Netflix hit Russian Doll and the recently cancelled Peacock mystery Poker Face.

Russian Doll's Ambitious 'Lynchian' Return

In a new interview, Lyonne confirmed her determination to create a third season of the acclaimed time-loop comedy-drama Russian Doll. The show, which she created and starred in, first premiered in 2019 and returned for a second season in 2022.

Lyonne outlined a unique vision for its comeback, drawing direct inspiration from filmmaker David Lynch. "I'm determined to do it Lynch-style – Fire Walk With Me and then Twin Peaks: The Return," she stated. This model refers to Lynch first releasing a Twin Peaks feature film before reviving the series on television a remarkable 25 years later.

"I'm determined to follow that model," Lyonne continued. "I can't tell you when I'm going to hit up Netflix. But it's incoming, it's in process... It's on my desktop. It's in Final Draft." She humorously suggested the timeline could be unpredictable, mentioning a potential return in "two years, 10 or 20, or 35", even joking about uploading her consciousness to the cloud to see it through.

Poker Face: A Satisfying Finale & Future Prospects

The conversation also turned to the fate of Poker Face, the case-of-the-week mystery series from Rian Johnson in which Lyonne starred as human lie detector Charlie Cale. Peacock cancelled the show after two seasons in November 2025, though creator Johnson has since floated the idea of it continuing on another network with Peter Dinklage potentially taking the lead role.

Lyonne expressed gratitude that she and Johnson were able to craft a definitive ending for her character in the Season 2 finale, aptly titled "The End of the Road." "We literally threw the car off a cliff!" she remarked.

However, she did not rule out revisiting the world of Poker Face. Lyonne hinted that she and Johnson could potentially return for a "good old-fashioned, made-for-TV movie just like Columbo would like to." She warmly endorsed the idea of Peter Dinklage leading a revival, calling him "one of my favourite people of all time" and adding, "It's kind of all good news. For me, baby's gotta direct some movies."

What's Next for Lyonne?

Beyond her acting roles, Lyonne is actively moving into directing. Her upcoming projects include co-writing and directing a film about artificial intelligence titled Uncanny Valley, as well as a Brooklyn-set family drama named Bambo. She also mentioned owing a memoir at some point, indicating a busy and diverse creative slate ahead.

While fans may have to wait to see how the Russian Doll and Poker Face stories evolve, Lyonne's comments confirm that both universes remain very much alive in her imagination, with potential returns that could defy conventional television timelines.
