Jonah Hill's Unrecognisable Transformation on Set of New Comedy 'Cut Off'
Jonah Hill's Unrecognisable Look on 'Cut Off' Set

Hollywood star Jonah Hill has undergone a dramatic physical transformation that left him nearly unrecognisable while filming his upcoming comedy, Cut Off, in Los Angeles.

A Radical New Look for a New Role

The 42-year-old actor was spotted on set fully immersed in his character, playing an entitled rich kid. His familiar face was hidden behind a pair of eccentric cat-eye glasses, while his signature brown curls were covered by a shaggy, bleached-blond wig.

Hill swapped his usual casual style for a loud, bejewelled sweater featuring an American flag engulfed in flames inside the word 'SOS'. He completed the eye-catching ensemble with rhinestone-studded jeans, a chain belt, and a bedazzled cross pendant.

Between filming scenes, the Oscar-nominated star was seen laughing and chatting with producer Matt Dines, his script tucked into a pocket and his wig carefully secured. Hill is not only starring in the film but also directing and producing the project, which he co-wrote with Ezra Woods.

Star-Studded Cast and Plot Details

The film boasts an impressive cast including comedy icons Kristen Wiig, Bette Midler, Nathan Lane, and Chelsea Peretti. Pop star Camila Cabello was also announced to be joining the project in an undisclosed role last October.

The plot centres on Hill and Wiig's characters, a pair of spoiled siblings who are forced to learn self-sufficiency for the first time after their wealthy parents, played by Midler and Lane, cut off their financial support.

Production for Cut Off began in late September, and the film is scheduled for a cinematic release on July 17 this summer.

A Candid Journey with Body Image and Mental Health

Hill's drastic new look has drawn attention, but fans have also been commenting on his noticeably slimmed-down frame. The actor, famous for roles in Superbad and 21 Jump Street, has been open about his fluctuating weight and fitness journey over the years.

He reportedly weighed 280 pounds at his heaviest and first kickstarted significant weight loss back in 2011. In a 2018 essay for his magazine, Inner Child, Hill candidly shared his lifelong battle with body issues, admitting he spent much of his young adult life being called 'gross and unattractive'.

He revealed that growing up overweight 'intensely f***ed me up' and that internally, he still feels like 'a 14-year-old boy who's very overweight and has acne and feels very undesirable to the world'.

In his 2022 Netflix documentary Stutz, made with his therapist, Hill discussed how the media's brutal commentary on his weight exacerbated his insecurities, making him defensive and angry. He expressed a wish that exercise and diet were framed around mental health rather than appearance.

In a significant move, Hill has stated he will not be promoting Cut Off or any of his upcoming projects. He explained that he has experienced anxiety attacks for nearly two decades, which are 'exacerbated by media appearances and public facing events'.

He stated his priority is to protect his mental well-being, ensuring he can stay true to himself and the therapeutic message of his film.
