Insights from Lead Actress Carrie Crowley
In an interview with the Irish Mail on Sunday, lead actress Carrie Crowley reflected on the evolving landscape for older women in the film industry. She remarked, "It's a very good time to be an older woman. I think maybe 30 years ago, would there have been many interesting parts? Probably not, because they were looking for the hot totty all the time."
Crowley, who also presented the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest, believes the industry is finally recognising the importance of older female characters. "Now we have come to understand that there are stories in older characters and older women. They don't have to be the leads in the story but they are very much a part of it," she added.
The actress also highlighted a growing enthusiasm for the Irish language among younger generations, crediting artists like rappers Kneecap and a shift in societal attitudes for making the language more accessible. "It's now much more widespread—not just the little elite groups but it is being opened out to other people, regardless of the level they can use it," she noted, emphasising a "hunger for the language among the younger generation."
Release Information
Aontas will launch on BBC iPlayer, BBC One Northern Ireland, and TG4 on Monday, 16 March, providing audiences with an opportunity to experience this award-winning crime thriller from the comfort of their homes.
