The long-running and cherished ITV drama Grantchester is set to return for its tenth series next year, but fans must prepare for a bittersweet farewell as the show will officially conclude after its eleventh season.
A Fond Farewell for a Beloved Drama
Series 10 of Grantchester is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, 7 January 2026. This run will be the penultimate outing for the vicarage-based mystery series, which first graced screens in 2014. The news that the eleventh series will be its last was confirmed last year, with filming for the finale having already commenced in the summer of 2025.
Robson Green, who has played Detective Inspector Geordie Keating since the show's inception and also serves as an executive producer, shared the emotional announcement on social media. He stated that "all good things must come to an end" as he revealed filming had begun on the final series.
Cast Reflections and Gratitude
In a heartfelt message, Green expressed his profound gratitude for the decade-long journey. "Being part of the final series of Grantchester has been one of the greatest honours and privileges of my life," he wrote. He praised the cast and crew as a "beautiful, loving family" and reflected on the powerful friendships and memories forged over eleven series.
Series creator Daisy Coulam echoed these sentiments, highlighting that the show's core has always been "the power of friendship and love." Polly Hill, ITV's Director of Drama, and commissioner Callum Dziedzic added that Grantchester represented a "golden chapter for ITV drama" with its enduring warmth and wit.
What to Expect Before the Curtain Falls
Before the final goodbye, viewers have two full series to enjoy. Series 10 will see the continued partnership of DI Geordie Keating and Reverend Alphy Kottaram, played by Rishi Nair. Nair joined the cast in series nine following the departure of Tom Brittney's Reverend Will Davenport. The pair will be supported by a host of returning fan favourites including Al Weaver as Leonard Finch, Tessa Peake-Jones as Mrs. C, and Kacey Ainsworth as Cathy Keating.
While an exact broadcast date for the concluding series 11 remains under wraps, the production team ensured filming was completed in the summer of 2025 to bring the story of Grantchester to a deliberate and fitting close. For now, audiences can look forward to one last summer of mystery and camaraderie in the Cambridgeshire village.
