Two Afghan nationals have appeared in court charged with the rape of a woman, police have confirmed. Hashmat Miakhel, 31, and Sayed Hoshmand, 19, both from Plymouth, faced Plymouth Magistrates' Court in Devon on the allegations.

The men are accused of raping a woman at a residential property in the Sherford area of Plymouth in the early hours of April 26. Devon and Cornwall Police reported that the woman and the suspects are believed to have first encountered each other in the North Hill area of Plymouth before traveling to the property together.

Both defendants have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear at Plymouth Crown Court on June 1. Detective Inspector Katy Deer urged the public not to speculate and to respect the legal process, acknowledging the concern such an incident may cause.
