George Clooney's Underrated Amazon Prime Series 'Catch-22' Called a 'Masterpiece'
George Clooney's 'Catch-22' Called a 'Masterpiece' on Prime

A film and television enthusiast has declared that a relatively obscure six-part limited series starring George Clooney on Amazon Prime Video is a 'masterpiece' that does not receive the acclaim it warrants.

The Discovery of a Hidden Gem

With an overwhelming array of films and TV shows available at the touch of a screen, deciding what to watch next can feel like a daunting task. However, for those who prefer not to commit to a lengthy series spanning multiple seasons, a limited series might be the perfect solution.

A limited series is a television programme that tells a complete, self-contained story across a predetermined number of episodes, typically consisting of a single shorter run of six to ten episodes. Unlike ongoing dramas with numerous series, a limited series generally has a clear beginning, middle, and end, functioning as a 'long movie' that often boasts high production values and a star-studded cast.

Now, a TV and film enthusiast known as Eccy claims to have stumbled upon a 'masterpiece' limited series that he believes deserves far greater recognition than it currently receives. He took to TikTok to share his glowing recommendation.

'So if you're looking for a limited series to binge and one that you've never heard of, never been recommended before, then I have the perfect one for you,' Eccy said.

He went on to reveal: 'Because the series that I'm talking about is called Catch-22.'

An Adaptation of a Classic Novel

The show is an adaptation of the classic 1961 novel of the same name. Eccy described the series as an 'absurd' dark comedy in the form of a war drama, which adapted the novel into a six-part limited series starring George Clooney, who also directed two episodes.

'It is super emotional,' he explained, before revealing that, like the novel, the story takes place during World War II and follows a pilot named John Yossarian, who is stationed in Italy but wants to return home.

'He's sick of the war, he's traumatised,' Eccy said.

Yossarian is assigned missions to complete and is informed that he will be permitted to go home once they are finished. 'But when he does complete them, they come up with even more,' Eccy explained.

He went on to heap praise on the show's cast, which boasts several familiar faces, including Hollywood heavyweight George Clooney, Christopher Abbott, Kyle Chandler, and Daniel David Stewart.

'And it's a show I highly recommend you go and check out, and I can't believe no one even talks about it,' Eccy said.

Audience Reactions

His followers were quick to echo Eccy's enthusiasm, with many heading to the comments section to voice their own opinions. 'Watched it a year ago, great series,' one viewer said.

Someone else added: 'Sounds really interesting tbf.' 'Seen this advertised on Prime Video will check it out now you've said watch it,' a third person shared.

Catch-22 is available to stream through Amazon Prime Video.
