Fans of the highly anticipated sequel to The Devil Wears Prada have unearthed a previously overlooked detail from the original film's promotional tour in 2006: Emily Blunt's strikingly orange spray tan.
Sequel Arrives in Cinemas
The Devil Wears Prada 2 lands in cinemas on May 1, with original stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt returning to their iconic roles. The sequel sees Miranda Priestly battling a declining print industry while confronting the success of her former assistant, Emily Charlton, played by Blunt.
Fans Reminisce About 2006 Premieres
As excitement builds for the sequel, some fans have been looking back at the red carpet events for the 2006 original. In photos shared on Reddit, Blunt—known for her natural pale complexion in the film—appeared with a deep, orange-hued spray tan, a popular trend in the early 2000s.
One Reddit user commented: “Why does the very naturally pale Emily Blunt look like a satsuma?” Another added: “Spray tans were all the rage back then, and they hadn’t figured out how to make them not orange yet.”
The original poster highlighted a particular oddity: “What’s killing me are her hands,” noting that her hands were significantly lighter than the rest of her body. Other users chimed in with similar observations, with one remarking: “It was the era of bright orange palms or stark white hands—no in between. Hilarious to look back on now.” A fifth quipped: “The tan is very British of her.”
Another user shared: “Spray tans and tanning beds were still a big business back then. I had a somewhat orange phase too.” A commenter added: “Holy c**p, how much spray tan did Emily have? I watched this in the theatre when it came out and just knew her as the mean girl in the movie. Now that she's been in so many other things, this looks unsettling. Although the character was very much about appearance, so it was probably part of the reason. The friends I went to see the movie with were also a weird shade of spray tan orange.”
The Devil Wears Prada 2 hits cinema screens on May 1.
