Coronation Street villain Becky Swain's grip on the cobbles could be slipping, according to exclusive teasers from two of the soap's stars.
Actresses Vicky Myers and Sydney Martin, who play Lisa Swain and her daughter Betsy, have hinted at a dramatic shift in the Swain family's fortunes in upcoming episodes. Speaking to The Mirror, they discussed the much-anticipated 'Corriedale' crossover event with Emmerdale and the evolving dynamic between their characters.
Cracks Begin to Show for the Puppet Master
Vicky Myers, who portrays Lisa, suggested that her character starts to question her ex-partner Becky's motives following her devastating split from Carla Connor. Carla previously attempted to expose Becky's sinister behaviour but failed, leaving others like Kit Green suspicious, especially after the attack on DI Costello.
"From Lisa's perspective, question marks are being raised and it heats up quite a lot, with the manipulation," Myers revealed. "Becky is absolutely the puppet master and there are cracks starting to appear. Things don't quite add up."
She emphasised the complexity of the situation, noting Lisa is caught in the middle of a family still reeling from Becky's shocking return from an apparent death four years ago.
A New Bond Forms Amid the Chaos
While Becky's web of deceit may be unravelling, a positive development is emerging between mother and daughter. Sydney Martin, who plays Betsy, highlighted a beautiful shift in their relationship.
"There's so much going on, but our relationship on the show, we have had some beautiful scenes where you see a shift in their dynamic," Martin said. "They're almost like friends which is really nice, amongst all the chaos you have pockets of beautiful moments."
Vicky Myers echoed this sentiment, explaining that for the first time, audiences are seeing Lisa and Betsy without the weight of grief or the manipulation from Becky, allowing a more genuine connection to form.
On the Road to Corriedale
The actresses also dropped a major spoiler about how the Swains become involved in the historic Corrie and Emmerdale crossover episode. Myers explained that a pivotal event forces the family to leave Weatherfield.
"Something happens and they have no other choice really other than to go and leave Weatherfield," she stated. "So they are on their way to get the ferry from Hull, that's how they end up in Yorkshire."
Both stars heaped praise on their co-star Amy Cudden, who plays the manipulative Becky, with Martin calling her "fabulous and the furthest from Becky you can imagine."
The pair shared their excitement about the crossover, with Myers celebrating the talent across both soaps. She recounted fun behind-the-scenes moments, including a late-night Christmas disco in a trailer with co-star Sally Carman-Duttine.
With the drama set to ramp up significantly, Coronation Street fans can expect a tumultuous time for the Swains. Becky's downfall may finally be on the horizon, while Lisa and Betsy's strengthened bond will be tested like never before.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
