Prime Video has released an explosive trailer for the second season of espionage thriller Citadel, surprising many fans who believed the show had been cancelled.
Return of the Spies
The series stars Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh, two amnesiac secret agents and former lovers who are pulled back into the field by spymaster Bernard Orlick, played by Stanley Tucci. Season two throws them into a new mission with even higher stakes.
A synopsis teases: “When a terrifying new threat emerges, the three are pulled back into action. Now they must recruit an unlikely team of skilled new operatives and launch a globe-spanning mission to stop a conspiracy that could reshape humanity. With blockbuster action, shocking betrayals, and an expanded ensemble of mysterious agents, the stakes have never been higher – and anyone could be friend or foe.”
New Faces and Long Hiatus
After a three-year gap, the super spies return, joined by Jack Reynor (The Perfect Couple) and Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows). However, the first season received mixed reviews, with a 51 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, leading many to assume the show was axed.
One YouTube user commented: “To be honest, with how many years it has been since Season 1, I thought this show was canceled.” Another said: “I thought this show was canceled. The first season came out like what 5 or 6 years ago now?”
On Reddit, a user asked: “is this still a thing?” and another replied: “I swore it got cancelled. I guess not.”
Excitement Builds
Despite the surprise, many fans are excited, especially with Tucci taking a more active role. One Redditor said: “This looks 10x better than S1 if I'm being honest. Like just let Tucci cook, man.” A YouTuber added: “I thought for sure they cancelled this. It’s been years but I’m glad to see it back and glad to see Stanley is getting some action.”
Citadel season 2 premieres Wednesday, 6th May on Prime Video.
