Britain's Got Talent winner Sydnie Christmas has spoken out about the backlash she has faced since her victory on the ITV show. The singer, who won the final on Sunday, June 2, with a rendition of 'Over the Rainbow', has faced accusations that her win was 'fixed' due to her previous career as a West End performer.
In an interview with Metro.co.uk, Sydnie said the speculation makes her feel 'really crappy' and is 'soul-destroying'. She insisted that everything about her journey on the show was genuine, adding: 'There’s nothing that breaks my heart more than to see the doubt.'
The winner received 27.2% of the public vote, beating magician Jack Rhodes (15.8%) and dance act Abigail & Afronitaaa (10.4%). Sydnie was sent straight through to the semi-finals after Amanda Holden pressed her Golden Buzzer during the first episode.
Amanda later praised Sydnie, comparing her to Adele and describing her as 'humble' with a 'sense of humour'. Sydnie's win also earned her a £250,000 cash prize and a place in the Royal Variety Performance.
