Saturday Kitchen Viewers Outraged by Chef's On-Air Hygiene Mishap
Fans of the BBC's popular cookery programme, Saturday Kitchen, were left fuming during the latest broadcast after spotting a significant hygiene blunder by one of the chefs. The episode, which aired on April 18, 2026, featured host Matt Tebbutt alongside drinks expert Olly Smith and chefs Andi Oliver and Nathan Outlaw.
Celebrity Guests and Culinary Displays
Also appearing on the show was Loose Women star Judi Love, who discussed her upcoming comedy tour, while Sophia Handschuh impressed the celebrity panel with her homemade pastries. Later in the programme, Andi Oliver took charge of the kitchen to prepare a smoked chilli blood orange chicken dish, served with waffles made from white sweet potato. Matt Tebbutt assisted by mixing the waffle ingredients, while Andi seasoned boneless chicken thighs using an all-purpose seasoning.
Viewers Spot Hygiene Concerns
However, eagle-eyed viewers quickly voiced their frustration on social media after observing that Andi Oliver failed to wash her hands with soap after handling the raw meat. Additionally, fans noted that the chef retrieved a potato waffle from the floor during the segment.
One angry viewer posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, "Again this week the chef handling raw meat without washing her hands afterwards and proceeding to touch everything." Another commenter added, "Andi dropping food on the floor and licking her thumb," while a third remarked, "3 second rule applies to that potato waffle that flew on to the floor - cut to Matt while Andi picks it up."
Andi Oliver Discusses The Great British Menu
During her cooking demonstration, Andi Oliver also talked about presenting the new series of The Great British Menu, which returned to television in February. This year, comedian Phil Wang joined head judge Tom Kerridge and Lorna McNee in the search for the next top talent in British cuisine, following Ed Gamble's departure from the show.
Andi revealed, "I have to say, it's my favourite menu that we've ever done this year at the banquet. It's so broad in its reach, the menu, that I'm just quite excited about it. Can't wait for everybody to see it."
Judi Love Talks Tour and Loose Women
Meanwhile, fellow guest Judi Love discussed her new tour, All About The Love, which promises candid insights into balancing parenting, work, and daily life. The official synopsis describes it as a production filled with honesty and humour, exploring how a big heart navigates life's surprises and struggles.
Regarding Loose Women, which is currently off air due to recent ITV cuts, Judi said, "I love it. We're back on air in a few weeks, and it's just great. It's not often that you can be in a space with so many amazing women. I say it all the time, if I want advice about parenting, about areas to live in, just anything, there's always someone there."
Saturday Kitchen remains available for streaming on BBC iPlayer, allowing viewers to catch up on the controversial episode and other culinary content.
