BBC Morning Live hit by tech glitch seconds into show as hosts forced to apologise
BBC Morning Live interrupted by tech glitch, hosts apologise

BBC One's flagship morning programme, Morning Live, was thrown into disarray just moments after it began broadcasting on Thursday, 15 January 2026, due to a sudden technical failure.

Apology Issued After Sound Cuts Out

Presenters Gaby Roslin and Rav Wilding had just introduced the day's guests, including stars from the popular show The Traitors, Kasim Ahmed and Minah Shannon. The programme then moved to a segment focusing on consumer advice and shopping scams, featuring consumer journalist Rebecca Wilcox via a live video link.

However, seconds after greeting Rebecca and as she began to speak, her audio feed completely failed. The hosts were compelled to swiftly intervene on air. "We apologise for that," Gaby announced to viewers. Rav quickly added an explanation, stating, "We've got a bit of a technical issue, the gremlins have got in and we've just lost the sound of Rebekah there."

Flustered Presenter and On-Air Banter

The incident left Rebecca Wilcox appearing visibly flustered on screen. In a light-hearted attempt to diffuse the situation, Rav joked, "Rebekah, have you pressed the mute button?" Once the audio connection was restored, Rebecca responded, "Can you hear me? Excellent, you saw all my panicked faces, I really was absolutely fine!"

The technical blunder was resolved relatively quickly, allowing the segment on fraud prevention to continue, but it provided an unexpected and awkward start to the 9.30am broadcast.

Other Morning Live Highlights This Week

In other notable moments from the programme this week, presenter Gethin Jones expressed significant frustration during a discussion about crime. While hosting alongside Helen Skelton and speaking with Rav Wilding about his Crimewatch role, the conversation turned to a news story about schoolboys attacking birds with slingshots in a Welsh town.

Gethin reacted strongly to the headline, saying, "This just sounds awful, Rav." Rav explained that police had confiscated the weapons and emphasised the seriousness of the actions. "It's completely illegal and awful on so many levels," he stated, noting that such incidents had led to injuries and property damage.

He issued a warning to viewers, clarifying that while owning a catapult is not inherently illegal, using it to harm people, wildlife, or cause criminal damage is a serious offence. A clearly exasperated Gethin replied, "Firing at birds, really? What's that about? It's ridiculous."

BBC Morning Live continues to air every weekday from 9.30am on BBC One and the BBC iPlayer.
