Actress Mia McKenna Bruce has disclosed a dramatic on-set injury, revealing she broke her foot on a historic staircase described as 'lethal' while filming a new Netflix mystery series.
The Dangerous Staircase at Badminton House
The incident occurred at the grand Badminton House in Gloucestershire, the location for Netflix's upcoming Agatha Christie adaptation, Seven Dials. The 28-year-old star, who plays the lead role of amateur detective Lady Eileen 'Bundle' Brent, stumbled and fractured her right foot on the property's ornate staircase.
Her co-star, the acclaimed actress Helena Bonham Carter, corroborated the danger, telling the Daily Mail that the floor was 'over-polished'. The 59-year-old Harry Potter star revealed she also slipped on the steps, declaring 'The staircase attacked us. They are lethal.'
In a startling claim, Bonham Carter suggested that the owner of the estate, the Duke of Beaufort, avoids using the staircase altogether due to its hazardous nature. The Duke's office declined to comment when approached for a statement.
Glamour at the London Premiere
Despite the earlier mishap, the cast assembled in high spirits for the series premiere in London this Thursday. Mia McKenna Bruce, fresh from her 2024 EE BAFTA Rising Star Award win, made a sensational appearance in a black velvet gown paired with a feather boa.
Helena Bonham Carter showcased her timeless style in a floral lace tulle dress, while fellow cast members including Sherlock star Martin Freeman and Queen Charlotte actor Corey Mylchreest added to the evening's sophistication.
Unravelling a Classic Christie Mystery
Seven Dials is a gripping three-part adaptation of Agatha Christie's 1929 novel, reimagined for a modern audience by Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall. The story follows Bundle Brent as she investigates the mysterious death of a suitor, Gerry Wade, found with seven clocks arranged on his mantelpiece.
Mia McKenna Bruce explained the adaptation's goal was to make Christie's work accessible while preserving the heart of the classic murder mystery. She noted her character, Bundle, deliberately subverts the expected behaviour of 1920s upper-class women, displaying a determined and independent spirit.
All three episodes of Agatha Christie's Seven Dials will be available for streaming on Netflix from Thursday, January 15.
