Meghan Markle's Engagement Ring Absence Noted During Jordan Humanitarian Visit

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have concluded a two-day trip to Jordan, invited by World Health Organization director-general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu to observe humanitarian efforts in the region. While their visit focused on philanthropic engagements, royal watchers quickly noticed a significant detail missing from Meghan Markle's appearance.

Jewellery Choice Raises Eyebrows

Throughout the Jordan tour, the Duchess of Sussex chose to leave her elaborate engagement ring at home, instead wearing only a thin gold band on her wedding finger. Observers noted she kept jewellery to a minimum, with just her wedding band and Cartier Love Bracelet visible during the engagements.

Meghan's engagement ring has undergone several transformations since the couple announced their engagement in 2017. The original design featured a substantial cushion-cut diamond from Botswana, estimated at £120,000, flanked by two smaller diamonds from Princess Diana's collection. This initial design held deep sentimental value for the couple, commemorating their early relationship.

Evolution of a Royal Ring

In 2019, coinciding with the birth of their first child Archie, Meghan's ring received its first modification, replacing the original gold band with a diamond pavé setting. Three years later in 2022, expert Neil Dutta of Angelic Diamonds observed further enhancements during the Invictus Games in The Hague.

"We saw another subtle yet impactful change to Meghan's ring," Dutta noted. "Additional diamonds were added to the central stone setting, likely boosting the ring's value to approximately £250,000."

The most recent alteration appeared in the 2024 trailer for Meghan's Netflix series With Love, where the centre stone appeared to have been changed to an emerald cut. These cumulative adjustments have reportedly added around £130,000 to the ring's overall value.

Humanitarian Focus in Jordan

Despite the attention to her jewellery choices, the Sussexes maintained their focus on humanitarian work throughout the Jordan visit. Their itinerary included:

  • A roundtable discussion with WHO officials
  • Visits to refugee camps housing displaced Syrians and Palestinians
  • Meetings with individuals who have sought sanctuary in Jordan

On the second day, with Meghan still not wearing her engagement ring, the couple visited the National Centre for Rehabilitation of Addicts. Prince Harry delivered an emotional address to recovered addicts, emphasizing that "there's no shame in having an addiction."

Harry explained to attendees: "It stems from something else which is an emotional pain – you're very, very brave to come here into hospital. Now what you need to do is use this experience and go back into your communities and help other people who are in a similar situation."

Messages of Support

Both Harry and Meghan left handwritten notes of encouragement during their centre visit. The Duke wrote: "It's ok to not be ok. Trust each other. Congratulations on your recovery. Now share your courage and experience."

Meghan added in her distinctive italic script: "Congratulations on your dedication to your care. Wishing you continued healing and happiness."

The Jordan trip represents another chapter in the Sussexes' ongoing humanitarian work, though the absence of Meghan's signature engagement ring has generated considerable discussion among royal observers about her jewellery choices during official engagements.
