The Princess of Wales and Melania Trump traded their state banquet gowns for casual wear as they joined young Scouts for nature activities at Windsor Castle. The event, which took place the morning after a lavish state dinner for US President Donald Trump, saw the two women help children earn their 'Go Wild' badges.
Kate organised a special packed lunch for the 20 Squirrel Scouts, aged four to five, featuring sandwiches made with honey from her own beehives at Anmer Hall in Norfolk. Mrs Trump brought gifts of White House honey for each child from Lewisham, south London.
The women arrived separately and met privately before walking together into the gardens. They joined the children in making leaf animal pictures and building 'bug hotels' from boxes, sticks and straw. Melania, wearing trousers, a suede jacket and flat pumps, sat on a small plastic seat while Kate sat on the floor.
During the activity, Melania drew a bear with help from five-year-old Mabel, who later sat on her lap. When asked her favourite bug, the First Lady replied: 'A ladybug!' prompting a child to joke: 'The First Ladybug.'
The group then played a parachute game, with both women laughing as the children shook the silk wildly despite instructions for 'gentle shakes'. Afterwards, the youngsters received their 'Go Wild' badges from Kate and Melania.
Chief Scout Dwayne Fields praised Kate's hands-on approach, saying: 'Having someone with the profile of the Princess of Wales as joint president is incredible.' He also gave his neckerchief to Melania after she revealed she had brought a gift from US Scouts for their British counterparts.
