Disgraced Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein has publicly shared his thoughts on actor Adrien Brody assuming a fatherly role for his two children with ex-wife Georgina Chapman. Weinstein, currently incarcerated at New York's Rikers Island, is serving a 16-year sentence following his 2022 conviction on sex crime charges in California.
Weinstein's Incarceration and Family Dynamics
The 73-year-old former movie mogul was convicted after numerous allegations of sexual harassment and abuse surfaced in a groundbreaking 2017 New York Times report. This led Chapman to separate from Weinstein after a decade of marriage, with their divorce finalized in 2021. The former couple shares daughter India Pearl, 15, and son Dashiell Max Robert, 12.
Brody's Integration into Family Life
Chapman began dating Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody in 2019, and he has since become a significant paternal presence in the children's lives while Weinstein remains imprisoned. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Weinstein stated he is "happy" that Brody has stepped up for his children.
"No! I was happy. It's good that my kids have someone in their lives," Weinstein responded when asked if he was upset by Brody's mention of the children during his 2025 Oscars acceptance speech for Best Actor. "And Georgina suffered terribly because of me. I'm glad she's finally found some happiness."
The 'Popsy' Revelation and Ongoing Relationships
During his Oscars speech last year, Brody shocked audiences by revealing that India and Dashiell affectionately call him "Popsy." He thanked Chapman and her children, saying, "It's been a rollercoaster, but thank you for accepting me into your life, and Popsy's coming home a winner."
Weinstein's spokesman Juda Engelmayer previously told the Daily Mail that "Harvey is happy for Georgina and grateful that his kids are being loved and cared for as they deserve to be." Although Chapman is no longer on speaking terms with Weinstein, he claims she still permits him to see their children.
Impact on Chapman's Fashion Career
Weinstein also addressed how the allegations against him affected Chapman's luxury fashion label, Marchesa. He stated that many A-list actresses who Chapman had "dressed so beautifully" for years stopped wearing her designs after the scandal became public.
"I am sorry she got such a bad rap," Weinstein said. "She knew nothing about what I was doing. I was a master of deception. To punish her company is an act of insanity."
Brody and Chapman's Relationship Development
Chapman and Brody first met at an event at the Dorado Beach Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Puerto Rico in April 2019. According to sources, Chapman attended after friends urged her to "get out of the house" following her isolation during the Weinstein fallout. The couple began dating shortly after and have now been together for over five years.
A PageSix source described Chapman as being in a "really dark, awful place" before meeting Brody, but noted their relationship is "much more different" than her marriage to Weinstein. "She and Adrien feel more like partners," the source added, stating they have "absolutely been there for each other through highs and lows."
Weinstein's Legal and Health Challenges
Once a powerful Hollywood figure, Weinstein became a symbol of sexual misconduct after media reports revealed allegations from approximately 60 women. He has denied raping or sexually assaulting anyone but was convicted of various sex crimes in both New York and California.
Weinstein is currently serving his 16-year sentence for the California rape conviction while awaiting a third Manhattan trial later this year to resolve a remaining rape charge from his 2025 New York retrial. The imprisoned producer is also battling multiple health issues, including cancer, diabetes, spinal stenosis, and a possible immune system problem.
