Sarah Ferguson's Alpine Sanctuary After Royal Lodge Eviction
Disgraced former Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson has sought refuge in a luxurious Alpine spa in Austria, costing an astonishing £2,000 per night. This move follows her eviction from Windsor's Royal Lodge, a consequence of her financial and personal associations with the late billionaire and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Departure from the UK and Austrian Hideaway
Ferguson swiftly departed the United Kingdom after being ousted from her plush Windsor residence. The revelation of her ties to Epstein emerged through a cache of emails and documents linked to the disgraced financier. She was recently photographed emerging from a Mercedes people carrier at the exclusive Mayrlife health clinic on Lake Altaussee in Austria, marking her first public appearance in several months.
The Mayrlife resort, known for its privacy and high-profile clientele, charges upwards of £6,700 for a two-week stay. Ferguson has previously visited the clinic, notably after a malignant melanoma diagnosis in 2024, where she praised the staff for their "gentle care" in an Instagram post from January 2024, describing the stay as a time for "recuperation."
Luxury Accommodations and Celebrity Clientele
Ferguson is reportedly staying in a two-bedroom chalet designed for "maximum privacy," featuring a spacious living area, a private terrace with direct lake views, and private spa facilities including a sauna and steam bath. The clinic has attracted numerous celebrities, such as Rebel Wilson and Nicole Kidman, and is also popular with Russian billionaires who book rooms for entire families, including nannies and bodyguards.
A friend commented to MailOnline, "The area is absolutely beautiful, and it's very quiet most of the time, so it's the perfect place for a high-profile figure such as her to lie low. But it is also the case that Fergie has hardly ventured out and has not drawn attention to herself."
Ongoing Scrutiny and Political Pressure
Despite her retreat, Ferguson faces ongoing scrutiny. She is not under police investigation, but there have been calls for her to cooperate with authorities regarding her association with Epstein. US Congressman Suhas Subramanyam has urged her to speak with American officials about the government's "investigation into Epstein's sex trafficking operations" and to testify about her "close personal and business ties" with him.
Her reappearance has sparked speculation among friends about the duration of her stay at the clinic, with one source noting, "She has no shortage of rich friends. Clearly things may change now she has been found." The clinic offers specialised programmes focused on aging, stress control, and weight loss, aligning with Ferguson's past health concerns.
This Alpine bolthole represents a stark contrast to her previous life at Royal Lodge, highlighting the fallout from her connections to Epstein, which have also impacted her ex-husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, whose reputation has similarly suffered.
