Victoria Beckham Launches GAP Range Amid Family Feud with Son Brooklyn
Victoria Beckham Launches GAP Range Amid Family Feud

Victoria Beckham was surrounded by her family at the launch of her new GAP range in New York on Wednesday night. The fashion designer, 52, was joined by her husband David, daughter Harper, 14, and son Cruz, 21, along with his girlfriend Jackie Apostel, 30. However, her eldest son Brooklyn, 27, was noticeably absent as the family feud continues.

A Love Letter to Early Style

The GAP range serves as a love letter to Victoria's early style, featuring denim jackets, capri trousers, and clean, simple T-shirts. This collaboration marks a strategic move in the fashion world, as she lends her 'VB' seal of approval to a nostalgic high-street giant. Cruz even wore a hoodie from the collection at the event, which was also attended by actress and model Michelle Randolph, Ali Larter, and editor Nina García.

Victoria shared snaps from the night on Instagram, captioning: 'What an incredible night celebrating the launch of @gap x Victoria Beckham! Thank you to the amazing teams who helped us bring this collaboration to life and to my friends and family for coming to celebrate with us in NYC xx.'

Chic and Sophisticated

Victoria looked effortlessly chic in a slouchy navy suit and white T-shirt, while David, 50, wore a dark blue co-ord. David also shared a gushing tribute to her after the event, along with a sweet snap with daughter Harper. In what she describes as a 'pinch me moment', Victoria hopes new fashion generations will share the excitement she felt shopping at Gap in her teens and twenties.

She told The Sunday Times: 'I remember going to Gap with my mum and sister and being so excited by it. Growing up, it was only ever the high street. I wasn't in a position to wear designer clothes.'

Addressing the Family Feud

The launch comes after Victoria addressed her 'challenging' past year amid the feud with son Brooklyn in a rare TV interview on Tuesday. When asked on the Today show by hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones about the tumultuous time, Victoria didn't specifically mention Brooklyn but said she will 'always protect' her children.

She replied: 'You know, myself and David, we're so close and we have incredible people around us. We're close to my parents and David's parents. We support each other through everything that we do. We love our children so much and have always really focused on protecting our children. But we laugh a lot. David Beckham is really, super funny.'

Brooklyn's Statement

Brooklyn cut ties with his family in a scathing social media statement in January, declaring he has no plans to reconcile and accusing them of 'controlling him for most of his life.' David and Victoria have not been seen with him since. Victoria also said in the interview that she and her husband rely on each other to navigate tough times: 'We support each other through everything that we do. We've grown together. And that's where I feel so blessed.'

After the TV appearance, Victoria shared snaps with the presenters and a glimpse of herself getting ready backstage. Meanwhile, Brooklyn posted a snap on Instagram with his dogs, ignoring the drama.

Parenting in the Public Eye

Just last week, Victoria said it's important that her children behave 'appropriately' amid the ongoing feud. Describing her 14-year-old daughter Harper, she said: 'She's very sweet, she's very kind, she works hard, and she's also very appropriate, which I think is really important as well.' Her remarks followed Brooklyn's explosive statement about their estrangement, in which he claimed Victoria danced 'inappropriately' with him at his 2022 wedding to Nicola Peltz.

Victoria addressed the feud directly, saying: 'I think that we've always — we love our children so much. We've always tried to be the best parents that we can be. And you know, we've been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we've ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children. And you know, that's all I really want to say about it.'

Impact on Business

Victoria was also asked whether she feels 'remorse' about bringing her family into the public spotlight. She told The Wall Street Journal: 'I wouldn't say it comes with guilt, I'd say that there was a lot of adjusting from my mum and dad, when all of a sudden there were paparazzi outside their house. We've really taken our families on this ride with us.'

David and Victoria haven't spoken to Brooklyn since last May, when he and his wife Nicola Peltz snubbed David's 50th birthday celebrations. Lawyers for Brooklyn and Nicola wrote to the Beckhams' legal team demanding they only converse through them. Shortly before Christmas, Brooklyn blocked his parents on Instagram, and in January, he posted a brutal six-page letter claiming his parents controlled him, tried to split him and Nicola up, and left him embarrassed by his mother's dance at his wedding.

Speaking about all four of her children, Victoria added that 'being a parent of young adult children and adult children, gosh, I mean, it's very different from having little children.' She said: 'I think that we're trying to do the best we can,' adding that the negative press has not affected her fashion and beauty business. 'I think that ultimately people are buying my product because the product is really good. I don't think they're buying my eyeliner just because it's me,' she concluded.
