Taylor Swift has announced her 12th studio album, titled The Life of a Showgirl. The announcement came at 12.12am Eastern Time on 12 August, following a countdown on her website and cryptic social media posts. The singer is also set to appear on her boyfriend Travis Kelce's podcast, New Heights, on Wednesday.
The album's release date has not yet been confirmed. Swift's website states that it will be shipped before 13 October, with a disclaimer that this is not the official release date. A clip from the podcast shows Swift opening a briefcase and revealing a blurred vinyl, saying, 'This is my brand new album, The Life of a Showgirl.'
Swift, 35, is one of the world's bestselling musicians, with an estimated 200 million records sold globally. Her Eras Tour became the first billion-dollar tour in history, generating over US$2 billion across 21 months. Her previous album, The Tortured Poets Department, set streaming records on Spotify and made her the first artist to hold the top 14 spots on the Billboard Hot 100.
In May, Swift regained control of her master recordings for her first six albums, after a long legal battle. She had previously rerecorded those albums as 'Taylor's Version' to devalue the original masters sold to Scooter Braun. Only her self-titled debut and Reputation remain to be rerecorded, though fans expect both to be released eventually.
