The music world is in mourning following the sudden death of beloved Albanian pop star Shpat Kasapi, who passed away at the age of 40 after suffering a fatal heart attack.
A Tragic Loss in Italy
Kasapi died in Monza, Italy, in the arms of his wife, Selvije Jao. The couple had travelled to the country to seek medical advice for their young son, making the tragedy even more poignant. The singer had no known pre-existing medical conditions, shocking his family, friends, and legions of fans.
In a deeply emotional Instagram post, his wife Selvije shared her profound grief. She wrote, "You died in my arms. How close we were, how cooperative we were in maintaining our privacy." She continued, "You left us here alone, without you... Why did you die in my arms? Why did you break my heart like this, my love?" Expressing her hope for a future reunion, she added, "I hope to meet you in Heaven. God wanted you close to him."
A Celebrated Music Career
Shpat Kasapi was a cherished figure in the Albanian and Kosovan music scenes. His career, which took off in the early 2000s, was marked by a string of popular chart hits that resonated with audiences.
Some of his most famous songs include:
- Ajo Me Mungon (I Miss Her)
- Valle Kosovare (Kosovar Dance)

He also competed for the chance to represent Albania in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. After a gruelling competition against 19 other acts, he was ultimately beaten by Kejsi Tola, who performed "Carry Me in Your Dreams" for the nation in Moscow.
Family Life and Legacy
Kasapi married Selvije Jao in a private ceremony in 2021 after the couple met during the filming of one of his music videos. They lived in Albania's capital, Tirana, and had a young son named Roel.
The family has chosen not to disclose the specific reasons for their son's medical consultation in Italy. Shpat Kasapi's untimely death has left a significant void in the music industry and in the hearts of those who knew him.
