Oasis Inducted into Rock Hall Despite Liam Gallagher's Past Criticisms
Oasis Rock Hall Induction Despite Liam Gallagher's Past Criticisms

Oasis and Other British Icons to Enter Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2026

The legendary Britpop band Oasis is among the British artists selected for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year, a notable achievement that comes despite frontman Liam Gallagher's previous harsh criticisms of the honour. The band, which reunited for a highly successful sell-out tour last year, will be honoured alongside five other British entries, including Sade, Billy Idol, and the combined nomination of Joy Division and New Order.

Liam Gallagher's Change of Heart on the Hall of Fame

Singer-songwriter Liam Gallagher, 51, had previously ridiculed the accolade when Oasis was nominated in 2024, posting on social media that the hall was 'full of BUMBACLARTS' and dismissing it as a 'w*** award by some geriatric in a cowboy hat.' However, following the announcement of Oasis' induction for 2026, Gallagher appears to have shifted his stance. In a recent post on X, he acknowledged his past remarks with a touch of humour, writing, 'Reverse psychology vibes in the area Oasis RnR hall of farmers I mean famers.' He went on to express gratitude, stating, 'I wanna thank all the people who voted for us it’s a real honour ever since I was a little kid and singing in the shower I’d dream about 1 day being in the RnR hall of fame it’s true what they say anything is possible if you have a dream LG x.'

Details of the 2026 Induction Ceremony

The 2026 honourees were announced by Ryan Seacrest during an episode of American Idol on Tuesday, with voting conducted by over 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals. This year's induction includes a diverse group of artists, such as Wu-Tang Clan, Queen Latifah, Luther Vandross, and Latin superstar Celia Cruz. For Joy Division and New Order, they share a single induction, recognising the latter's formation after the tragic death of Joy Division lead singer Ian Curtis in 1980.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame chairman John Sykes emphasised the significance of the honour, saying, 'Induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is music's highest honour. We look forward to celebrating these remarkable artists at this year's ceremony - it's going to be an unforgettable night.' The ceremony is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles in November, with a debut on Disney+ in December.

British Representation and Eligibility Criteria

British representation in the hall has seen fluctuations; in 2025, only a few UK acts like Bad Company and Joe Cocker were honoured. Artists become eligible for inclusion 25 years after releasing their first commercial recording, which explains why bands like Joy Division, Oasis, and Billy Idol, who were nominees last year but did not make the cut, are now being inducted. This induction marks a significant milestone for Oasis, coming shortly after Noel Gallagher was awarded songwriter of the year at the Brit Awards, highlighting the band's enduring influence in the music industry.
