In an exclusive revelation, music icons Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr have reunited to record a brand new duet, potentially their final collaboration together. The track, titled Home To Us, is a nostalgic ode to their shared upbringing in Liverpool and will feature on Sir Paul's forthcoming album, set for release next month.
A Nostalgic Return to Roots
The song, which delves into memories of their childhood in Liverpool, includes not only the two Beatles legends but also backing vocals from Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders and Sharleen Spiteri of Texas. A select group of fans were treated to a preview of the album in Los Angeles last week, where Home To Us was played. Initially, Ringo contributed drumming, but later added his vocals, with the pair believed to harmonise on the chorus.
Sir Paul shared with the audience: “Ringo’s never done a duet with one of the Beatles.” Ringo had previously hinted at the collaboration on the Jimmy Kimmel show, keeping details under wraps but confirming, “It started two years ago with the drums, it was like in reverse, the drums went on first. It’s amusing and very real because that is where we come from.”
The Inspiration Behind the Song
The theme of Home To Us is deeply personal, focusing on the area of Liverpool where the two grew up. Sir Paul described it as “a little rough, but home to us.” This sentiment echoes throughout the album, which is said to revisit his formative years that shaped not only his life but also the foundations of modern popular culture.
Last month, the first track from the album, The Boys From Dungeon Lane, was released as Days We Left Behind. Speaking about this song, Paul remarked: “This is very much a memory song for me. The album title, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, comes from a lyric in this track. I was thinking just that, about the days I left behind and I do often wonder if I’m just writing about the past but then I think how can you write about anything else? It’s just a lot of memories of Liverpool.”
Dungeon Lane, an area near the Mersey shoreline where Paul played as a child, once featured daffodil fields but is now known for its proximity to Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
A Lasting Friendship
Sir Paul and Ringo last worked together in 2023 on the Beatles track Now And Then, which was based on a 1978 demo by John Lennon and was billed as the band’s final song. Sir Paul also contributed a track to an EP Ringo released that year. The pair remain close friends, regularly communicating via FaceTime.
Sir Paul’s new album, The Boys From Dungeon Lane, will be released on May 29 via MPL/Capitol Records.
