The Killers Reunite Original Lineup for Historic UEFA Champions League Performance

In a major announcement for music and football fans alike, iconic rock band The Killers have been confirmed as the headline act for this year's UEFA Champions League Final Kick Off Show, presented by Pepsi. This performance marks a significant milestone as it will be the first time in nine years that the band performs as a complete four-piece unit.

Full Original Lineup Returns for Budapest Spectacle

The legendary gig will take place at Budapest's Puskás Aréna on May 30, with the stadium's 70,000 capacity expected to be filled with enthusiastic supporters. The reunion sees frontman Brandon Flowers and drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. joined once again by lead guitarist Dave Keuning and bassist Mark Stoermer, completing the original lineup that fans have long awaited.

To build anticipation for this monumental event, The Killers collaborated with football legend Sir David Beckham on an entertaining promotional video titled 'The Race Begins'. The playful footage shows Flowers enjoying a game of pool before jumping into a custom electric blue convertible to race Beckham, who speeds away on a motorcycle, with both heading toward the Budapest venue.

Career-Defining Hits and Football Connection

The band has promised to deliver a set packed with their most celebrated anthems, including the globally recognized football favourite 'Mr. Brightside'. This performance exemplifies how Pepsi's Kick Off Show seamlessly merges the worlds of football and music into one unforgettable experience.

Expressing their enthusiasm about the upcoming show, The Killers stated: 'When we were asked to perform at the UEFA Champions League Final Kick Off Show presented by Pepsi, we said yes without hesitation — some stages speak for themselves. We're honored to celebrate the incredible teams and players at what will undoubtedly be an epic match.'

Pepsi's Commitment to Cultural Moments

Eugene Willemsen, CEO of International Beverages at PepsiCo, highlighted the significance of this event: 'Pepsi MAX has a proud history of bringing big cultural moments in sports and music to fans around the world, and this year is no different. We're proud to welcome one of the most loved rock bands of the 21st century, The Killers, to the stage in Budapest. We can't wait for them to deliver their electrifying performance and world renowned anthems.'

The final match will feature two of the remaining sixteen teams in the tournament, continuing a tradition that typically attracts millions of viewers across Europe. Last year's final saw Paris Saint-Germain claim victory in Munich after defeating Inter Milan 5-0.

Band History and Recent Activity

Despite Keuning and Stoermer departing from regular touring duties in 2017, Flowers and Vannucci maintained an intense schedule, performing over 90 gigs in 2022 and 65 more in 2023, alongside a residency at Caesar's in 2024. The band, formed in Las Vegas in 2001 by Flowers and Keuning, later expanded to include Stoermer and Vannucci in 2002, creating the lineup responsible for timeless hits like 'Somebody Told Me'.

Interestingly, many fans only recently discovered the origin of the band's name after 25 years. The name 'The Killers' was inspired by the fictional band featured in New Order's 2001 music video for 'Crystal', with Flowers spotting the name on the drum kit of that fictional group, a tribute to his admiration for New Order.

This UEFA Champions League performance not only marks a rare full reunion but also celebrates The Killers' enduring legacy in both music and popular culture, promising an electrifying prelude to one of football's most prestigious events.
