The Cure's Perry Bamonte Leaves £1.4 Million Fortune to Wife in Will After Death
Perry Bamonte, a cherished member of the iconic band The Cure, has left his entire £1.4 million estate to his wife Donna Bamonte following his tragic death in December 2025. The musician, who was 65 years old, succumbed to a short illness over the Christmas period, as confirmed by the band in a heartfelt announcement on their official website on Boxing Day.
Details of the Estate and Personal Life
Bamonte's estate, valued at £1.9 million before deductions, was bequeathed solely to his wife, whom he married in 2009. The couple, who had no children, resided near Exeter, where they dedicated their time to caring for, rehabilitating, and retraining retired racehorses. This passion for equine welfare was a significant part of their life together, reflecting Bamonte's compassionate nature beyond his musical career.
Musical Career with The Cure
Perry Bamonte's association with The Cure began in 1984 when he joined as a roadie, working under his brother's supervision as tour manager. He later served as a guitar technician and personal assistant to frontman Robert Smith. In 1990, following Roger O'Donnell's departure, Bamonte became a full-time member of the band, contributing on guitar, six-string bass, and keyboards across several albums, including Wish, Wild Mood Swings, Bloodflowers, Acoustic Hits, and The Cure.
Despite being dismissed from the band in 2005, Bamonte reconnected with the group and participated in their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2019. He officially rejoined in 2022, performing in over 90 shows, including the band's most recent concert at London's Troxy on November 1, 2024, for a special three-hour album launch of Songs of a Lost World. He was also set to join The Cure on their upcoming UK and European tour this summer.
Tributes and Legacy
Following the news of his death, fans and fellow musicians expressed their grief on social media. Singer Stuart Braithwaite described Bamonte as a "lovely, kind soul who always made everyone feel welcome," while other fans shared how his music with The Cure had profoundly impacted their lives. The band's statement highlighted his quiet, intense, and creative personality, noting that he played a vital role in their history, performing in more than 400 shows over 14 years.
The Cure, currently consisting of Robert Smith, Simon Gallup, Roger O'Donnell, Jason Cooper, and Reeves Gabrels, had recently announced their first new album in 16 years, released in November 2024. Bamonte's death marks a significant loss for the music community, as he was due to perform in upcoming tour dates across Manchester, Cardiff, Dublin, Belfast, Edinburgh, and Berlin, as well as at major festivals.
