Bluey Announces Orchestral Album 'Up Here' with Queensland Symphony Orchestra
The beloved cartoon dog Bluey has announced the release of an orchestral album, marking a significant musical evolution for the character. Titled Bluey: Up Here, the album features 17 brand-new recordings that showcase a sophisticated orchestral sound, proving that even a familiar character can learn new artistic tricks.
Collaboration with Queensland's Premier Orchestras
For this ambitious project, Bluey has enlisted the talents of two renowned musical ensembles: the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra. This collaboration elevates the album beyond typical children's music, blending Bluey's signature charm with the emotional depth of classical orchestration.
The album will be available across multiple formats, including streaming services, vinyl, and CD, starting from March 27. In a generous preview for fans, two singles are already available to stream: Bluey Theme Tune (Orchestral Version) and Sleepytime, offering a taste of the album's rich musical landscape.
Creative Vision Behind the Music
Bluey: Up Here was composed by the series' award-winning musical director, Joff Bush, along with The Bluey Music team. In announcing the album, Bush expressed his enthusiasm, stating, 'This is our most ambitious album yet - something we’ve dreamed of making for a long time. Orchestral music is so emotionally powerful, and introducing kids and families to it is a privilege I treasure.'
He further elaborated to Rolling Stone Australia, explaining that the album's theme revolves around 'growing up' – exploring children's journey toward independence and highlighting poignant moments from the show that reflect this development.
Chart Ambitions and Competitive Landscape
Bluey aims to replicate the success of his debut album, which made history by reaching No. 1 on the Australian ARIA chart – the first children's album ever to achieve this top spot. However, the path to chart dominance may be challenging, as fellow cartoon star Peppa Pig recently released her fifth album, Peppa Pig Pop.
Peppa Pig has boldly entered the pop music arena, covering hits from major artists like Rihanna, Kelly Clarkson, BTS, and Katy Perry, with adaptations tailored for young audiences. For instance, her version of Rihanna's Diamonds features rewritten lyrics to ensure age-appropriate content, delighting fans with its playful take.
Bluey's Continued Popularity and Future Projects
This musical release comes on the heels of Bluey's remarkable success in streaming. Recently, it was revealed that Bluey became the most-streamed show in America in 2025, with fans on Disney+ consuming a staggering 45.2 billion minutes of the heartwarming series over the past year.
Looking ahead, BBC Studios and The Walt Disney Company are currently producing Bluey's first-ever animated feature film, scheduled for cinematic release in 2027. This album release adds to the growing legacy of the Bluey franchise, blending entertainment with artistic innovation for audiences of all ages.
