Love Island's Wes Nelson, 27, rushed to hospital after snapping Achilles tendon
Wes Nelson suffers serious Achilles injury playing football

Reality TV star and musician Wes Nelson has suffered a serious setback after being rushed to hospital with a severe injury. The former Love Island contestant snapped his Achilles tendon while playing a casual game of football with friends.

A Painful End to the Year

The 27-year-old shared the unfortunate news with his 1.3 million Instagram followers, posting a picture from the A&E department with his calf heavily bandaged. According to Nelson, the injury occurred during his first football match in many years, marking a brutal end to what has been a challenging year for the star.

In a video from the hospital, a rueful Nelson declared he was hanging up his boots for good. "Decided to play football for the first time in years… Snapped my Achilles," he wrote alongside a thumbs-up emoji, before adding with humour: "Nah the game’s absolutely gone. 27 years old. I’m calling it a day. Golf and golf alone." He is now relying on crutches to get around.

A Year of Misfortune for the Star

This injury is the latest in a string of bad luck for Wes Nelson in 2025. Back in January, the star fell victim to theft while travelling on a train. He revealed that his £8,570 Louis Vuitton bag was stolen as the train stopped at Milton Keynes. Nelson recounted how a thief had apparently slowly slid the bag from the overhead rack to the seat behind him before making off with it at the station.

He was fortunate to have removed his MacBook, which contained unreleased music, prior to the journey. Determined to recover his belongings, he even offered a reward for their return. Unfortunately, his misfortune continued into October, when his full set of golf clubs and bag were also stolen, prompting him to lament the state of London.

From the Villa to the Studio

Wes Nelson rose to fame on the 2018 series of ITV2's Love Island, where he was famously involved in a love triangle with co-stars Megan Barton-Hanson and Laura Anderson. He initially coupled with Laura before choosing Megan, a decision that caused significant drama in the villa. Nelson and Barton-Hanson dated for five months after the show before parting ways in early 2019.

Since leaving the villa, Nelson has pursued a music career, leveraging his celebrity status. He also competed in Dancing on Ice, where rumours of a rift with Barton-Hanson emerged over his professional partner, Vanessa Bauer. Now, with a long recovery from his Achilles injury ahead, his focus will likely shift away from the football pitch and back to the recording studio.
