Royal author Robert Hardman has disclosed what Donald Trump privately thinks about key members of the Royal Family, offering a rare glimpse into the US president's personal views. Hardman, who wrote 'Elizabeth II: In Private, In Public,' met Trump at the White House and later saw the president promote his book on social media.
Speaking on the Palace Confidential podcast, Hardman recalled asking Trump for his opinions on senior royals as King Charles and Queen Camilla's state visit to the US concluded. 'He's very happy with the way the visit's gone, reiterated obviously how fond he is of the King,' Hardman said. 'He also expressed great admiration for the Prince of Wales, and had very warm words - and words of concern as well - but was very flattering about the Princess of Wales. And possibly less flattering about the Sussexes. I'll leave it at that for now.'
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have lived in the US since stepping back as senior working royals in 2020. According to the Daily Mail's Richard Eden, Trump once asked a British visitor about Harry: 'Can you take him back?'
Harry's Ukraine Visit and Royal Role
Trump's comments come shortly after Harry's visit to Ukraine, a country where the US president has taken a more confrontational stance than his predecessor. Harry has long supported Ukraine and recently affirmed his commitment, telling ITV he would not be 'gagged' by critics and would continue 'speaking truth to power.'
Reflecting on his position within the Royal Family, Harry described his work in Ukraine as a continuation of his duties while a working royal. 'I will always be a part of the Royal Family, and I'm here working doing the very thing I was born to do,' he said.
During his visit, Harry called on Vladimir Putin to end the war, stating at the Kyiv Security Forum: 'President Putin, no nation benefits from the continued loss of life we are witnessing. There is still a moment - now - to stop this war, to prevent further suffering for Ukrainians and Russians alike, and to choose a different course.'
