From the moment Stephen Libby stepped onto the train station platform in his impeccably tailored blue jacket, audiences were captivated by the charismatic Scotsman. The Traitors champion has now revealed that his distinctive fashion choices were a deliberate part of his winning strategy.
A Wardrobe Designed to Distract and Charm
The 32-year-old from Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis explained to The Mail on Sunday that his colourful ensembles served a specific purpose in the game. "I just love fashion and I love clothing," Stephen shared. "I think actually it's a really good way of getting people to let their guard down around you in terms of how you look."
He admitted that selecting flamboyant outfits helped distract from his facial expressions during tense moments. "I think it did help distract from the face and the facial expressions and kind of kept people's eyes down," he revealed. This approach proved remarkably effective as he ultimately scooped £47,875 during Friday's dramatic final.
The Vintage Collection That Can't Be Replicated
Fans hoping to emulate Stephen's style may find themselves disappointed. The cyber security consultant explained that most of his clothing comes from vintage sources. "Everything that I wore there was pretty much already owned," he said. "Most of my clothes are vintage, so I mean that's my way of saying you'll never have them yourselves."
Among his most memorable looks was a Harry Styles-inspired blue and orange jumpsuit from episode eight, believed to be from Palomo Spain's Tiburón collection from spring 2022. Other standout pieces included:
- An eye-catching red kilt
- Chic knitwear combinations
- Wide-leg trousers in block colours
- The perfectly tailored blue jacket that first caught viewers' attention
Historic Victory and Personal Revelations
Stephen and fellow contestant Rachel Duffy made history by becoming the first duo of Traitors to triumph together. Despite widespread speculation that Rachel might betray her friend to secure the entire prize pot, both remained loyal to a pact made at the family tree stage.
The winner also opened up about his personal journey during the series, discussing his sexuality and the impact of being in the closet until his early twenties. "Always having to hide a part of myself, I think you carry that with you," Stephen reflected. "I think that maybe helped somewhat in being a traitor because you have to be able to switch between these two people."
Record-Breaking Success and Career Changes
The series finale achieved remarkable viewing figures, averaging 9.4 million viewers with a peak of 9.6 million and an audience share of 54.9%. This represents the biggest overnight audience for the civilian version of the series to date.
Stephen's popularity has translated to social media success, with his Instagram following now exceeding 283,000. He has confirmed that he left his cyber security position at the end of 2025 and is contemplating a new direction. "I've worked since I was 15 and I've worked hard," he explained. "This for me is an opportunity to just take a wee break and that really is all it is."
Despite having connections in the entertainment industry through his actor partner Daniel Quirke and comedian friend Lou Sanders, Stephen acknowledges that showbusiness remains unfamiliar territory. "I would love to just make sure that in the future I'm doing something that genuinely makes me happy," he said. "I've got lots of things that I feel passionate about, and I would be a very lucky boy if I could work in one of those areas."
Reflecting on his Traitors experience, Stephen expressed pride in his approach. "I'm so happy with how I managed to play the game with my integrity and heart still at the core of everything I did," he concluded. "I'm really proud of myself."
