Oscar-winning actress Mira Sorvino has publicly defended fellow star Kristin Davis after the Sex and the City actress faced relentless online trolling about her appearance.
The incident began when a user on the social media platform Threads posted side-by-side photos of Davis, now 60, with a critical comment about her looks. The user wrote: 'I will never understand why women do this to themselves. She was such a gorgeous woman!! She's had so much Botox, it took away her original and one of a kind traits! Doesn't even look like her anymore!'
A Powerful Defence
The public criticism prompted Sorvino, 58, who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in 1995's Mighty Aphrodite, to step in and defend her fellow actress. Sorvino clapped back with a powerful message emphasising that 'we are only human'.
'When people like yourself are publicly commenting on actress' appearances, you know we are only human and feel a lot of pressure,' Sorvino wrote in her response. 'I think she looks beautiful, and I think you wouldn't like it if people were dissecting images of you online taken decades apart.'
The daughter of the late GoodFellas actor Paul Sorvino concluded her defence with a call for solidarity: 'Let's support each other not tear each other down.'
Davis's Honest Confessions
While there's no indication that Davis and Sorvino are friends or even know each other personally, the heartfelt support will likely be appreciated by the Melrose Place alum.
Davis, who played Charlotte York on Sex and the City and its recently cancelled spinoff And Just Like That, has been remarkably open about her experiences with cosmetic procedures. In a 2023 interview with The Telegraph, she confessed: 'I've done fillers and it's been bad. I've had to get them dissolved and I've been ridiculed relentlessly. I have shed tears about it. It's very stressful.'
The actress spoke candidly about the challenge of ageing in a culture obsessed with youthful appearances, noting 'it's hard to be confronted with your younger self at all times.'
Davis reflected on the contradictory expectations women in the public eye face, saying: 'It's a challenge to remember that you don't have to look like that. The internet wants you to - but they also don't want you to. They're very conflicted.'
Reflections and Regrets
In a separate development, Davis recently expressed regret about her behaviour towards co-star Bridget Moynahan during their time working on Sex and the City.
Appearing on iHeartRadio's Are You a Charlotte? podcast, Davis admitted she had unintentionally 'internalized Charlotte's worldview' and didn't give Moynahan, who played Mr. Big's wife Natasha, a warm welcome because her character was the 'nemesis' to Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw.
'I don't think I was that nice to you. I feel really bad about that, Bridget,' Davis confessed.
Fortunately, Moynahan responded with understanding, laughing: 'It's OK now. Don't worry!'
The Coyote Ugly actress admitted she had been confused about why Davis was 'being so nice' when they later developed a friendship at their gym. Davis explained: 'By then, we weren't in our characters anymore, and I could just be a normal person.'
In other news, Davis recently expressed her disappointment about the cancellation of And Just Like That after three seasons, telling The Drew Barrymore Show: 'I just assumed that we were gonna keep going. That's how I am, you know what I mean?'
