Sam Smith Relaxes in Tulum After Girls Just Wanna Weekend

Sam Smith was seen embracing a relaxing beach day in the picturesque coastal town of Tulum, Mexico, on Monday, following a series of concert performances. The 33-year-old non-binary singer, who uses they/them pronouns, showcased their tattooed chest while strolling shirtless along the sandy shoreline, accompanied by a friend who assisted with applying sunscreen to their back.

Beachside Relaxation and Tattoo Display

During their leisurely outing, Sam sported a pair of navy Kappa swimming shorts, which highlighted an eye-catching ice cream tattoo on their left leg. After enjoying a refreshing dip in the ocean, they opted for a more covered-up look, slipping on a khaki T-shirt and sunglasses to continue their beachside stroll. The singer appeared in high spirits, clearly making the most of a well-deserved day off in the tropical location.

Concert Engagements in Mexico and New York

Sam's visit to Mexico was primarily for their participation in the Girls Just Wanna Weekend 7 festival, held at the Barcelo Maya Resort from January 15th to 19th. They performed alongside notable artists such as Brandi Carlile, CMAT, and The Chicks, adding to their recent string of live engagements.

Prior to this, Sam spent November and December captivating audiences in New York City with their To Be Free tour. In an Instagram post, they expressed their affection for the city, stating, 'New York has become a second home to me in the last few years, so playing intimate shows at a venue as beautiful as The Warsaw will be a really special experience.'

Star-Studded Support and Intimate Performances

The New York residency garnered significant attention, with Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway in attendance for one of the shows. On December 10th, Sam took to the stage with Ed Sheeran and country star Brandi Carlile for their 22nd performance at the 1,000-capacity venue. Hathaway later joined Smith and Sheeran for a backstage photograph, adding to the event's glamour.

Other notable figures who appeared during the residency included fashion icon Anna Wintour and American musician J.D. Sansom. Addressing the audience between songs, Sam explained their motivation for the scaled-down shows: 'I wanted to get back into rooms where I can see your faces. It’s been such a beautiful experience, so thank you to the Warsaw.'

Personal Life and Future Plans

Sam is believed to still be in a relationship with long-term partner, designer Christian Cowan, who has worked with celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Lady Gaga. The couple first started dating in late 2022 and made their public debut at the iconic Met Gala in May 2024.

Looking ahead, Sam is expected to continue their run of live performances, with plans to take the stage in San Francisco later this year. As an advocate for body positivity, they often use social media and public appearances to promote self-acceptance and confidence, a theme that resonated during their beach day in Tulum.
