Britney Spears' Ex-Husband Sam Asghari Breaks Silence After Her DUI Arrest
Sam Asghari, the former husband of pop icon Britney Spears, has publicly addressed the singer's recent arrest and charge for driving under the influence. Spears, aged 44, was detained by California Highway Patrol officers in the early hours of Wednesday, 4 March, and processed by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office before being released later that same day. She is scheduled to appear in court on 4 May to face the allegations.
Asghari's Response and Call for Privacy
Asghari, who separated from Spears in August 2023 after approximately 14 months of marriage, was questioned about the incident during an interview with Fox News. The 32-year-old Iranian-American model and personal trainer, who had been in a relationship with Spears for around seven years since late 2016, initially sought to focus on the escalating conflict between the United States and Iran, a topic he has previously commented on. However, he remarked, "When it comes to people making mistakes, I understand that... I think that everyone deserves privacy. And I hope that the press has learnt from the past, that they give her the privacy that she needs."
Spears' Legal Situation and Support System
The California Highway Patrol has confirmed that the incident remains under active investigation, with chemical test results still pending. A representative for Britney Spears issued a statement this week, describing the arrest as "an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable." The representative added, "Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney's life." They further noted that Spears would be receiving the necessary help and support, with her sons spending time with her and loved ones devising a plan for her wellbeing.
Background on Spears' Personal Struggles
Britney Spears was released from a highly controversial conservatorship in 2021, which had placed her personal, financial, and business affairs under the control of her father, Jamie Spears, for nearly 14 years. Concerns about her wellbeing have persisted in recent years, highlighted by erratic social media behaviour and reports of estrangement from her two sons, Sean Preston Federline and Jayden James Federline, whom she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline. However, she posted about reuniting with Jayden around Christmas 2024. Following her arrest, Spears appears to have deactivated her Instagram account, adding to the ongoing scrutiny of her personal life.
