Ryan Thomas Brothers Tease Him Over Lucy Mecklenburgh PDA and Wedding Delay
Ryan Thomas found himself the target of good-natured ribbing from his brothers after he declared that his fiancée, Lucy Mecklenburgh, appeared to be deeply "in love" with him during their recent romantic getaway to Copenhagen. The couple, who have been together since 2017, shared affectionate photographs from their stay at the luxurious Hotel Bella Grande, including snaps of them kissing in a photo booth.
Brothers React with Surprise and Laughter
On their popular podcast, At Home With The Thomas Bros, Ryan's brother Scott Thomas, a former Love Island star, expressed astonishment at the public display of affection. "I saw some pictures of you two kissing in a photobooth. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. This is a bit PDA for Lucy," Scott remarked, highlighting Lucy's known aversion to such overt gestures.
When Ryan responded by saying, "I just validated my love for Lucy. I was so in love this trip. I felt like she was," both Scott and their other brother, Adam, burst into laughter. Adam humorously suggested, "Let's ask Lucy, get her on," adding to the light-hearted teasing. Ryan, undeterred, passionately professed his love, stating he is "besotted" with Lucy and considers himself "the luckiest man in the world."
Underlying Reasons for Wedding Postponement Revealed
While the couple got engaged in June 2019, their wedding plans were initially disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. During this time, they welcomed two children, Roman, now six, and Lilah, three, further delaying their nuptials. However, new insights suggest that financial considerations may be a significant factor in the ongoing postponement.
Sources indicate that Lucy Mecklenburgh, who comes from a wealthy family with her father Paul having an extensive property portfolio, is keen to maintain her financial independence. This caution stems from Ryan's past financial difficulties, including a bankruptcy declaration in 2013 despite earning £100,000 annually on Coronation Street at the time. His debt spiraled from an unpaid £40,000 tax bill, and while the bankruptcy is resolved, it continues to impact his financial standing.
Recent company filings reveal that Ryan's firm, R James Thomas Ltd, which manages his income from television and endorsements, held just £1 in its accounts as of January 2025. Additionally, the company owed over £30,000 from a Covid Bounce Back Loan. In the UK, bankruptcy can affect credit for up to six years, with certain restrictions lasting up to 15 years, and it must be disclosed in full financial history applications.
An insider explained, "Lucy listens to everything her father says, and she has always been very financially literate. Ryan, on the other hand, has admitted to making a lot of mistakes with money. As much as Lucy loves him, it wouldn't be entirely sensible for her to legally bind her finances with Ryan's, which would happen if they married." The source added that Lucy may have been advised to protect her assets, as any future financial troubles for Ryan could significantly impact her if they were legally wed.
Alternative Perspectives on the Delay
Despite these financial concerns, another source insists that the primary reason for the wedding delay is simply that the couple is content with their current situation. They are focused on parenting their young children and managing their busy careers, feeling "happy as they are" without rushing to formalize their union legally.
Ryan and Lucy, who fell in love while filming Channel 4's Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls, have previously attributed the delay to life's unpredictable demands. Yet, the interplay of financial prudence and personal happiness continues to shape their journey toward marriage, amidst the playful family dynamics and public scrutiny.
