ITV presenter Ruth Langsford has confessed to a major parenting misstep that left her teenage son 'fuming' after she shared a personal family moment on national television. The Loose Women star, 65, admitted she now thinks twice before mentioning her 23-year-old son, Jack, on the popular lunchtime show following the incident.
The Moment That Caused Family Tension
Speaking candidly to Woman & Home Magazine, Langsford explained the delicate balance of being open on a show that thrives on personal stories while protecting her family's privacy. "It's dangerous because sometimes we forget we're on TV," she said. "You have to be careful talking about your children and I was always very mindful of Jack."
The specific blunder occurred when she displayed a photograph of Jack from when he was 14 years old. "I once showed a photograph of him when he was 14 and he was fuming because I hadn't asked him," she revealed. "Lesson learnt." This experience has made her far more cautious about what she reveals during the panel discussions.
From 'Cool Mum' to Supermarket Embarrassment
This is not the first time Ruth has spoken about the challenges of parenting a growing son in the public eye. Earlier this year, on the There I've Said It podcast, she reflected on the poignant moment she realised she was no longer considered a "cool mum" by Jack.
She described how in his younger years, her silly antics like singing wrong song lyrics or dancing in the supermarket were met with delight. "Jack thought I was hilarious, right?" she recalled. However, that dynamic shifted dramatically during one supermarket trip. "And then suddenly – I can't remember what age – I was in the supermarket, it came on and I was like, 'Twizzle Sticks, Jack!' He was literally like [squirming] 'Mum!'"
That moment signalled a clear change. "It suddenly happens and it's like, 'Oh he doesn't find me amusing anymore'," she said, adding that topics like sex are now firmly off-limits for discussion.
Life After Split and Show's New Chapter
Jack is Langsford's only child with her ex-husband, Eamonn Holmes, from whom she separated last year after 14 years of marriage. In her latest interview, she discussed navigating the split, confirming she continues to attend counselling sessions but is now in a "happy place" on her own.
Since the breakup, she has focused on her friends, including her 'TV son' Rylan Clark, and is working on an upcoming book that will explore the "good, happy, bad [and] sad" times of her life.
Her personal reflections come as Loose Women itself prepares for a significant change. As part of an ITV scheduling reshuffle, the show will move to a seasonal format from January 2026, airing for 30 weeks of the year instead of running continuously. Despite this shift, it is not expected that any current panellists, including Langsford, will lose their spots on the panel.
Loose Women continues to air weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV and ITVX. The January issue of woman&home is on sale from December 4, 2025.
