Russell Crowe has lost 13kg as part of a health-focused transformation ahead of his wedding to fiancée Britney Theriot. The 61-year-old Gladiator star is prioritising his wellbeing over image, according to reports.
Concerns had grown that Crowe's weight could seriously impact his health, prompting him to make lasting lifestyle changes with strong encouragement from Theriot. The actor is targeting a further 9kg loss.
Crowe has adopted a sustainable diet rich in lean protein, fruits and vegetables, while limiting junk food rather than severe calorie restriction. He has also cut back on alcohol, noting that 'dark drinks' do not agree with him as much as vodka or tequila.
His fitness regimen combines resistance training and cardio, which research links to reduced risks of cardiovascular disease and cancers, as well as improved quality of life. The benefits of weight training can persist for up to four years after just one year of training.
