Ex-Liverpool star Luis Diaz launches music career with debut single 'La Promesa'

Former Liverpool winger Luis Diaz has surprised fans by launching a music career, releasing his debut single 'La Promesa' (The Promise) in collaboration with Colombian artists Juanda Iriarte and Nelsen. The track is rooted in champeta, an Afro-Colombian musical style from the Caribbean coast.

In the song, Diaz recounts the promise he made to his parents to buy them a home and help them leave their former neighbourhood. The lyrics express gratitude for his football journey, with lines such as: 'Thank you, God, for giving me the blessing of playing football, and being able to fulfil the promise I made to my parents and to my whole family, amen.'

Sharing the release on Instagram, Diaz wrote: 'I close the year with gratitude. To God, for guiding my every step... This song comes from the bottom of my heart, from the most sincere gratitude for what we have built together.' He added that music is a hobby and a way to express himself, born out of passion.

During his time at Liverpool, Diaz scored 41 goals and provided 23 assists in 148 matches, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and two League Cups.
