A Las Vegas club promoter has pleaded not guilty to charges of DUI and hit-and-run after a crash last month that left a British mother and her toddler severely injured. The incident, captured on the driver's own Tesla camera, occurred near the Las Vegas Strip on 8 February.
Prosecutors allege that 28-year-old Gavin Caci was driving a grey 2026 Tesla Model Y at about 7:35 p.m. when he veered onto a sidewalk near Harmon Avenue and Audrie Lane, striking a family of three visiting from the United Kingdom for a wedding. Video footage from the Tesla shows the vehicle mounting the kerb, hitting a parked car, and then ploughing into the pedestrians.
A preliminary blood test taken less than two hours after the crash showed Caci's blood-alcohol level was 0.22, nearly three times Nevada's legal limit of 0.08. The father of the family, aged 38, told a grand jury that he was thrown into the air and landed on his right side, while his 2-year-old child was ejected from a stroller and thrown into a nearby pole. The 32-year-old mother was left unconscious with a severe head injury. Both mother and child were hospitalised but have since returned to the UK.
The family has filed a lawsuit against Caci and Tesla Lease Trust, alleging the trust should have known Caci was likely to drive recklessly. Their attorney, Al Lasso, stated that the family trusts the justice system to speak for them. Caci is scheduled to stand trial on 13 April and is currently out on $100,000 bail, ordered to wear an alcohol monitor and remain under house arrest.
This is not Caci's first traffic offence. He was cited for speeding in December 2025, travelling 69 mph in a 45 mph zone, and received tickets in 2023 for causing a crash and in 2024 for speeding.
