Russell Brands Slams Ex-Wife Katy Perry's Romance with Justin Trudeau
Russell Brand Criticises Katy Perry's Justin Trudeau Link

Russell Brand has publicly criticised his ex-wife Katy Perry's new relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, branding the politician a "globalist stooge".

Political Jibe at Conservative Gathering

The outspoken 50-year-old comedian and actor made the remarks on Thursday while addressing a crowd at a Turning Point USA event in Phoenix, Arizona. The group was founded by the late conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.

During his speech, Brand referenced his brief marriage to the Firework singer, which lasted from 2010 to 2012. He then tied his personal history into a political critique of Perry's new romance with the left-leaning former leader.

"Look, Katy Perry, I was married to her," said Brand, known for films like Get Him to the Greek. "I love her still, and I'm glad that her mom's in the room to hear me say this - but look."

Brand's Disdain for Trudeau

Brand expressed that Perry's pairing with Trudeau, 53, bothered him far more than her past relationship with actor Orlando Bloom, 48. The singer and Bloom, parents to five-year-old daughter Daisy, announced their split earlier this year.

"I was okay with Orlando Bloom, but Justin Trudeau?" Brand questioned the audience. "Come on, man! Don't put me in a category with that guy."

Trudeau, who served as Canada's prime minister from 2015 to 2025, and Perry, 41, were first linked in late July after being seen dining at the Montreal restaurant Le Violon. Their relationship became Instagram-official earlier this month when Trudeau reposted a picture of the couple with former Japanese prime minister Fumio Kishida and his wife.

Personal Lives and Legal Battles

The new romance follows significant personal upheavals for both parties. Trudeau split from his wife of 18 years, Sophie Grégoire, in 2023. The former couple share a 16-year-old daughter, Ella-Grace Margaret.

An October source told People magazine that Trudeau "is a much happier person now" and that stresses in his life are "greatly diminished" since becoming involved with the I Kissed a Girl songstress.

Meanwhile, Brand is concluding a difficult 2025, facing serious legal challenges in England. He has been charged with five counts of assault and rape following accusations from four women. The initial allegations emerged in September 2023 in a joint investigation by The Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4's Dispatches.

Brand has consistently and "absolutely" refuted all claims against him. His trial is scheduled for June 2026.
